Power sliding window mod info thread

what if you mount the assembly onto a slim jim style aluminum piece and bolt said piece to that centre rail. something like this but bent it. I know space would still be an issue, but as far as mounting, it wouldn't disturb that back wall

 

Going with that switch because every switch slot left side of the steering wheel is already taken. Plus that switch only fits the blanks under the HVAC controls and luckily I have one open slot left.

Like what Bocsy44 said you can go with any style switch to your liking.

Hmm if nothing else works I'll go this route. I know on my 08 AC I had a lot of space to work between the plastic cover and back panel. The DC plastic bins contours to that panel and that's what's giving the lack of any space.

 

You can probably sell that to a mini trucker in california for a grand.

 

didn't realize that switch fits under the HVAC. good news to me, I will definitely be going with that switch if that's the case haha. I also have the DC and will be facing the same issues with space so I'm looking forward to seeing your progress and must thank you for being the guinea pig haha the good news if some of the plastic is to be cut, which is likely, it wont be in plain sight

 

We are also attempting this mod using 2017 Taco parts on my 2016 Taco.
I have ordered all the OEM parts and am interested in how you guys that are using the OEM Switch are wiring it up.

 

Maybe this will help someone figure it out.... Info from TIS on the 2017 tacoma switch.
I am not sure what "E" signifies though....

That would be my guess too. I don't see a 12v+ though...

 

I'd have to actually look at a wiring diagram so don't take my word, but "up" and "down" should send the voltage to the appropriate side of the actuator and "E" would be common ground.

 

That would be my thinking as well but I would assume that there would need to be a connection to power somewhere.... Maybe the + connection to an Illumination source is enough.....

I'm not sure, I haven't ordered the parts yet, if I had to guess 12v would go to UP and Down and E would be a common ground. I would hook everything up to a 9v battery and test it out. a little trial and error haha maybe @adio can chime in on what his wiring plans are, and maybe an update on his progress

 

Is the rest of your install finished.......motor, cables, bracket? Don't know if this will help, as I just used a DPDT toggle, but, the basic functions are probably part of the OE switch.

 

Installed the cable assembly (from a 17 tacoma) for the power sliding rear window this weekend for my 16 tacoma. Fits perfectly. There are clips included with the cable assembly that hold the cable against the rear wall of the truck. No modifications needed.
Also for those interested, I also purchased an additional cable assembly from a Tundra just to see the difference and can confirm they are very similar. Only difference is the length of the cable. In fact most of the Tundra rear power window parts are very similar if not exactly the same as the Tacoma parts.
Also note, everything fits perfectly behind the plastic rear wall panels and is completely hidden.
Still awaiting 2 more parts from the dealer before we can finish the install.

Still not sure about the wiring of the OEM switch though....

 

Can you list the 2016 parts / part numbers that you ordered?

 

Looks to me like "E" can be either ground or +12v (whichever you prefer) depending on how you plan to wire this up.

With the switch pulled "E" will be passed through pin 6
With the switch pushed "E" will be passed through pin 4

I have this switch but it's currently in my truck otherwise I'd confirm. Seems to me that is correct though from when I originally tested the switch.

Also note.... I swapped my 2016 rear sliding window unit for a 2017 tacoma power sliding window unit (glass and frame). It was a perfect swap/ fit.

• Can you explain the difference between connecting "E" to +12V vs connecting "E" to ground?
  
• I will have 2 wires coming from the sliding window motor.
  
• The "open window" wire will connect into the #6 pin position.
  
• The "close window" wire will connect into the #4 pin position.
• If I connect +12V to pin 2 (E).... will that send power to the open or close wiring on the motor depending on if I press or pull the switch?
• Where will the ground for the switch connect? Pin 1?
