Show us your truck bed sleeping platform/drawer/storage systems

Any suggestions on how to lock yourself in? Some of my adventures leave me sleeping in some sketchy areas

I have pondered that, too. Locking yourself in makes for a quick escape harder.

A velcro strap around the inside handle and stuck to the carpet?

I also think, I would rather drive further than sleep somewhere 'sketchy'.

Thinking of using two of these ubolts, one on the door and one on the tailgate and dropping a pin through it. simple fast and effective

I made a simple platform in my short bed.



I the drawer is small, but I like that as I can still thow things like dirty boots into the bed.

To make it possible for it to sleep two people I created an extension and sewed a little tent to cover it. (Tent not shown)

 

Easy, just loop some paracord or webbing over the locking bar for the rear window and use a clip to hook it to one of the tie downs (assuming you have some sort of locking bar(s)). Anyone trying to open the window won't be able to see it and it'll make noise if they try pulling on it. The clip makes it fast and easy for you to open it if need be. I know one fellow who has a hasp on the inside but I didn't feel like drilling into my rear window frame and I worried it would get snagged and I wouldn't be able to open it from the outside.

For an all glass rear window, I've seen where a fellow used the window clamp off of a spotting scope mount that he'd tied a peice of paracord to that could be secured to anything in the back. He just slid the clamp on the bottom of the glass and snugged it down then tied the paracord to the adjusting knob and the other end to whatever he had in his truck. Example of the style clamp I'm talking about.

I also just put in a dual battery system and added a fuse box to the bed of my truck. First thing I wired to it was some new bed lights:

 

You put your dual battery setup in your bed? Do you have pictures of that?

 

I put it under to hood seen here. But I ran a cable to the back and put a separate fuse box underneath my platform on the back wall. My reasons for not putting the battery in the back were to save money on cable and I was kinda worried about sleeping near a battery and didn't want to work out a venting system.

 

Got ya. So you have two different fuse boxes, one under the hood and one in the bed. Correct?

 

Sure do. The logic behind this is I didn't want to run lots of wires back and forth to the front of the vehicle for everything I plan to install in the bed. This way, I have one large cable (4 AWG) going to the back to support any thing I have back there.

 

I decided against the full-length platform due to the restricted headroom. Went instead with a ~2' wide platform in the back on the wheel wells. I can stack gear in bins on top of it while sleeping on the bed with my feet beneath the platform. It can be removed and disassembled with no tools. Probably going to get some solid licking bins for security. Pretty stoked about it! Going to quit my job soon and travel with my dog for a few months before going back to school for a doctorate degree. Getting the taco ready





The platform is connected to the 2x4 struts with 4 eye-bolts that thread into t-nuts so it can be removed with no tools
