TRD Sport 4x4 Rear Diff Lock?

Does the Sport model has an automatic type that locks up when there is a rear wheel spin?
Does the Off Road model has a manual type with button?

 

Don't know about the sport, offroad has a factory elocker.

 

I think the sport uses the brakes (traction control system) to simulate an LSD but there is no mechanical device within the pumpkin.

 

The Sport has the automatic limited slip differential (Auto-LSD). It's not a locker.

 

Which uses the brakes to simulate a real LSD. The Offroad and TRD Pro are the only ones with lockers.

 

The Sport model with manual trans has the larger 8.5" new rear differential... the auto has the 8" thats been on the Tacos for several years.

I have the Sport with MT and the LSD. The LSD can be turned off ... it works like traction control.

 

Sport does not have a locker. Only the OR and the Pro do.

it's simple push button to lock it.
Should note the locker can only be used in 4 low though.

 

In what situation one would turn off the LSD?

 

can someone please explain to me the A-LSD as far as the button that I can push on my Sport that shuts off traction control? something about I can tap the botton and it does something, but if I stop and hold the button down it does something more.... examples of when/why to push or hold the button would be wonderful!

 

I never messed with mine... I know it kicks in tho when the rear end slides around in slippery conditions and straightens me out... I Imagine it might be helpful is some situations when you are stuck say in sand or mud and you need traction to one rear wheel... to keep from digging in deeper... just a guess tho. I try and stay out of deep mud!

 

I believe the rear is 8.75".

 

As a guy with a 4x2, how would the Diff Lock work without the 4lo option?

 

its normally off.
Its only once you turn off the traction control (1 press not holding the button to turn off) that the LSD comes on.
So unless you drive around with traction control always off, your LSD will always be off.
Only turn it on when needed

 

probably need to be in low range gear or something?

 

That I do not know and am wondering myself. I tried using the diff lock in 2hi and 4hi with no success then busted out the owners manual and it said it can only be locked in 4lo

 

one press turns off VSC (vehicle stability control)
when its on if you slide it uses the brakes on certain wheels to correct your slide to aid in keeping you straight.
and limits power to the rear to help stop the slide.

holding turns off TRAC and VSC
when trac is on it limits wheel spin, so with it off you can floor it and the computer won't limit power to the rear because its slipping.


if you want to do donuts in the snow turn off everything.

 

yes because you have a 4x4.
He's asking for those that have a 4x2 off road.

if you have 4x4 you have to be in 4Lo for it to work.

For the 4x2 you'd have to check your manual.
I only have the 4x4 canadian manual, 4x2 OR doesn't exist here lol.

This has been asked plenty of times in numerous threads, no one with a 4x2 has posted about it yet. I'm still trying to understand the idea behind a 4x2 off road lol.

 

I have an sr5, should I be turning on the A-LSD while off roading? Mostly sand and mud.

 

Unless you know exactly what you're doing and why you're doing it, don't mess with it and leave it be.

 

Do most off road 4x4 trucks nowadays have this electronic / brake assisted lsd compared to a mechanical lsd? Is one better than the other?
