I would suggest learning CB first. If a simple CB and antenna can't be properly installed, @aero3685 , I'm looking at you, then HAM ain't gonna be any better.

There are more CB users on the trail than HAM users.
There are more CB users on the highways than HAM users.

Since carrying the HAM radio the last several weeks, I get random reception/hear people talk/ with the CB all the time.
I hear nothing on the HAM unless I'm in town. None of it relates to anything of any importance either. It's all antenna talk. I'm not knocking it, I just don't see it as the end all, be all, in communication.

By removing your CB you can force all you wheeling buddies to make the switch as well.

CBs work great for trail communication/BS where all the rigs are close together. I also have enjoyed listening while driving down the highway. I wouldn't consider it for much more, though.

My interest in HAM is for possible emergency type situations where being able to hit a repeater and getting a message out a much longer distance would be helpful. I don't think it's necessary for chit-chat between a few vehicles a few hundred yards apart.

My reasoning for HAM is the same as Brett Jr., but that isn't going to cause me to get rid of my CB.

That is the only reason I decided to try it.
Between CB, HAM, Cell phone and smoke signals, (igniting the forest on fire), I'm sure I can get ahold of somebody that gives a damn.

That was my main interest in HAM. I wasn't expecting to use it much for wheeling unless everyone in the group had HAM, which I think would be rare.

    This.

Cause all the cool kids are doing it. I have yet to wheel with any group that had more than one or two with a HAM setup, and they all had CBs too, or worse, nothing at all.

I love that one. It's not you, it's me... I'm just not into you.

Not really. I mean, clearly you were still in the 'not exclusive' stage though maybe she didn't know that, and I'm not sure how long or how many times you'd gone out, but... Valentine's is for kid friends and serious relationships. Anything else is just coincidental or planning. Besides, you could have done it day of. :D

Ah, toys for people with too much money... some day. :pout:

I agree the bumper itself looks huge, but at the same time I don't think it sticks out nearly as far as those Iron Cross bumpers. I think part of it has to do with the 3rd gen design overall, and how even the stock bumper doesn't stick out as far as older gens. They're much flatter fronted. A lot of the metal/mass of that thing looks like it's the wrap back rather than sticking out. And there's only so much you can do to get a winch up front and keep your radiator(s).
