airbag resistance?

I changed over to a camry steering wheel and airbag. My SRS system still has a 51 and 53 code which I think is a short in the drivers side squib. I measured the camry airbag and I'm only getting .3 ohms of resistance. Does anyone know what the tacoma resistance is by chance? I'm guessing more, and I would put a resistor in series.

Oh and before people chime in with exploding airbags and such, as a Trained mechanic, I've got a handle on this.

a trained mechanic would go to both

a) techinfo.toyota.com for the EXACT answers and
b) research Takata documents on SRS system function.

not forums with dicks like me with...you know, answers you need like a and b above

a damaged SRS system can break necks and paralyze or kill people and
you want internet advice ? lol. someone here might have those pages from
techinfo and post them up. but if not from an official toyota page I would
check it on techinfo. any good advice, we'd need to know your vin to know
exactly when your truck was spit out of the factory as SRS is continually updated

I could probably jump in and be a dick too. You as a trained mechanic should probably understand us redneck techs don't know the proper way to check ohmage of an airbag.

 

I checked mine with a digital multimeter. you wouldn't want to use an old analog. It takes several amps to ignite an airbag. A DMM only uses a few milliamps.

 

Sorry OP, I don't know the answer... but I have a question.... I thought that Tacoma actually had a Camry steering wheel?

And sorry about "those guys". Unfortunately, ignorance leads to assumptions, which are more than likely wrong, and an unreasonable fear of something that really isn't a danger.
You'd be surprised at how many people here will lose their minds over just *unplugging* an air bag to do something like replace the spiral cable (usually because the airbag light is on). You'll get the standard line of "unplug the battery and wait until tomorrow to make sure all the power is out of the system". Considering that a broken spiral cable means that its already partly unplugged, and could even have been into an "intermittent" and possibly FLICKERING phase of connection... yet it didn't go boom.

Anyhow, best to just silently laugh at those guys and otherwise ignore them.

no, it's called doing shit correctly and according to engineering standards set by the
manufacturer for critical safety systems. it's not just you, it's everyone else on
the road near you as well. airbag goes off in traffic for no reason and you hurt someone ?
passenger dies ?

real risks, mitigated by doing careful and accurate and by-the-book maintenance.

What you are doing is very precisely defined as FEAR MONGERING.
You have NO IDEA what it takes to set off an airbag, so under the guise of "lets just play it safe", you're spreading fear that DOES NOT APPLY.

 

You sir are just talking out your ass. He is providing the OP the exact toyota source of the information that he is requesting. There is no need for anyone to unplug their airbag and risk (no matter the level, implied or otherwise). An airbag is an expensive part, it is a safety feature, and it can set an expensive warning code for said individual that doesn't know what they are doing.

Since you seem to be more knowledgable why haven't you fulfilled OPs request?

OP is obviously hoping to find someone who has (a) already made the measurement, or (b) happens to have it currently disassembled and can easily make the measurement.

don't know about a Toyota...but Honda airbags have a 2 ohm resistance
