    TW, help me out, please.

I've been considering a high clearance bumper for some time now, but worry about resale value. Obviously, I don't expect it to add any value. I want one for looks and utility. However, my truck is well maintained, and I would like to sell it for as much as possible when that fateful day final arrives (just as we all would).

Anyone have a high clearance and actually trade in, or sell their truck?

    Other thoughts?

    Thanks!

High clearance requires cutting the bedsides

Exactly, I mean the type where you cut the bed. Otherwise, saving the bumper is a good idea. That's what I did with my front bumper :)

If you sell it to someone who appreciates and knows what the high clearance bumper is for, then you will probably do just fine. But if your selling it to someone who is more interested in a stock truck, then they will probably point that out as a reason to offer you less.

    Just my .02

I think so long as you keep the same functionality of the stock bumper and hitch you wont take any hit.

Unless you sell to an enthusiast that HC is probably going to decrease value (not a whole lot). There's also the stigma that being modded means it's been abused also for some reason.

If you mod your truck then it will always decrease in value... Most Tacoma owners prefer stock... This website is a different breed <_<

Ya, I worry about that stigma...especially since I've been very careful about maintenance, and don't wheel it like a maniac (I can't afford that).

I've thought about this before I ordered my BruteForce bumper. I came up with 2 solutions. 1) just buy new bedsides when it's time to sell. And 2) sell it as is. People love the 2nd gens and just as long as everything else on the truck isn't fucked up and ugly having the rear bumper probably won't affect much.
In the end i decided I'm going to keep the truck forever. Sentimental reasons (first brand new vehicle I've bought for myself)

Oh and if you're planning on actually putting the high clearance bumper to use, it'll be better than bashing your bedside in. If you're not planning on putting the bumper to use why not just get a standard rear bumper?

That will *definitely* cause a major negative impact in the resale value of the vehicle. 99.99% of buyers (which even includes those who would themselves MAKE that modification) who would otherwise like the truck will avoid it when they see something hacked up like that. Part of it is about the specific modification, the rest of it is the assumption that other aspects of the vehicle are similarly altered.

Most people looking AT hacked up vehicles, will do so with the purpose of getting something for CHEAP.

The value of a vehicle with crinkled bedsides will likely exceed the value of a vehicle with intentionally hacked up bedsides.

There might be another option here.... but it will end up costing a bit more.
Fiberglass bedsides. Take off and store the factory bedsides and bumper, swap on the aftermarket bedsides and bumper, swap back when its time to sell.
Neat thing about Tacoma is the fiberglass composite BED -- unlike a truck with a conventional STEEL bed, the sides can be unbolted and replaced.
