Hey guys, just got a MaxTrac 4" lift with Icon UCA's and Billy 5100's all around on my 3rd gen. I'm wondering if I should've gone with Fox 2.5 coilovers instead. Anyone have any opinion on how much better the Fox's will be mainly on road? I wouldn't be adding any lift on top of the spindles.

Haha, I'm waiting until my last bit of work has been done. I'm planning on getting Dakars next week and possibly a Snugtop Rebel.

Thats a whole lot more (like 4 times more) than a spindle kit & would be an inch shorter if you went with just the 4" spindle kit.

Do you have a 2WD? I have 4" spindles with Icon UCA's and really like them. The only problem I can see (for some) is that spindles kick your front wheels out .75 inches on each side.

    I do have 2wd @TacoMaxxxx

I don't have a problem with the stance I just am trying to decide what route to go,

I am going to be off roading/camping about 2x a month and want something smooth but also don't know if it is worth spending thousands on

I decided to keep the Billys for now and use the money for a nicer cap. I have the SnugTop XV on order!

I would just do the spindles man. You won't have to jack with poor alignments at aftermarket arms right now.

You can always add that stuff down the road but I just can't stress enough how nice it is to get a good looking lift right out the gate

You are absolutely right. I did it in stages, albeit short stages. First I just did the MaxTrac Spindles, a block in the rear and Billys all around. The alignment was decent but the truck didn't feel planted. I was also rubbing on the front fender wall. I decided to change to Icon UCAs and ended up having to do the CMC with 285/70R17's. The Icons made the truck feel much better to drive. The last thing I'm doing is the Leaf replacement since blocks aren't so hot and I'm going to need more stability for my shell. All in all I don't regret anything but my suspension ended up costing around $3600.

That's where my head is right now, especially since coils don't necessarily change ride height. (currently I don't have coilovers or spindles :pout:) If I were you @rainyben45 I'd get spindles for the lift, then if you don't like the ride on your current shocks start looking into upgrading those after. You cannot in any way shape or form compare the ride of those kits to the HS bundle. Those HS bundles don't include new front shocks, even if you got Bilstein 5100's as an upgrade they're not in the same universe as Fox coilovers. Flip side of the coin: Coilovers ride like shit if you crank them up to 2.5 or 3", which is the max lift you'll get out of them. So if lift is your main concern, get on board w/@ChadsPride recommendation and start with spindles.

At this point I'm looking for both coils & spindles. I'm not happy with my 5100/885 and want to touch the sky some more while I ride smoother than a freshly shaved....babies bum. It's all about what pops up for sale 1st (lookin at you King group buy :spy:).

Thanks for the advice guys:thumbsup: I guess I will just start with my stock struts/coils up front and then buy the extended 5100's for the rear Dakar leafs

I'm running Bilstein 5100's with OME 885's up front & extended 5100's in the rear. Most of my wheeling is during hunting season on trails & logging roads but occasionally go with some of the TW peeps when I'm able to.

Preloading the Icons or even the FOX COs to get the lift you want and taking from your down travel is not the best route IMO. I'd do spindles first any day. Down the road get a set of COs and take the preload out for a nice quality ride. Even if you did the COs first in the end you'll wish you had the spindles. Keep in mind these 2wd trucks weigh about 130 lbs (from what I remember) less up front over the 4x4s and the COs were designed around the weight of a 4x4 double cab V6 as this serves as worse case from a manufacturing design standpoint (spring rate chosen for stability/handling based on weight of 4x4). So basically the COs on a 4x4 feel quite a bit better vs when on a 2wd. This is why I run 550 coils on my FOXs, they pair a lot better IMO. This and valving was changed a bit.
