How did you do yours? I have a silver Taco and I'm thinking about doing this. I think it would look better.

Be sure and take your wheels off if you plan to paint or dip them. You don't want that stuff on your rotors.

YouTube plastidip emblems to see how it's done. Rather easy.

I did my son's with plastidip and it was much easier. Just have to take it off, clean it, and when it's dry, put about 5 coats on. It looks good, more of a flat or satin finish. I ended up taking my painted one off and doing the same. I just put 5 coats on top of the paint.

Did you remove your bumper caps or just tape everything off while still on the truck?

I masked it all. I had some painters tape and a roll of rosin paper in my shop already. So, masking took less time than removing the caps would've taken.

Yea, I dipped a set of wheels on the vehicle before this one as well as its grill. I dipped stripes on my hood (see pics), my tacoma emblems and 2 sets of grills. Also dipped my son's 12v power wheels.

I took the wheels off. A bag might work but I wouldn't feel comfortable going that route.

How are you guys getting clean lines on the letters? I did my V6 emblem on the tailgate and couldn't get a clean peel on the 6. Did 5 coats. Maybe I just suck

3 cans of the typical black then 1 can of graphite metalizer (I prefer to say cans instead of coats since the coats aren't an accurate way of measuring it to me)

It's my first plasti dip project ever and i'm very happy the way it came out. The more metalizer you put on the more gunmetal it will come out. I did pretty light cost, so it was a total of about 7 coats.

Picture 1: About 4-5 Coats of the Typical Black

    Photo 2: Metalizer - 1 coat

    Photo 4: Metalizer - 2.5 coats

Sorry I wish i took more photos of the process...Hopefully this helps.. I'll post pictures once I get the caps on. I know through the rubbing it would end up peeling some of interfaces of the plasti dip.

So you taped the lug nuts and put plastic bags on the brakes?

Yes, it was super easy... the most painful part was cleaning the rims. Also the cards didn't fit between the tire and the wheels. I don't know how other people did it, but all I used is painter's tape on the rim (tire side) and note cards connected to the painter's tape.
