Ok I've looked high and low on Google and TW but I can't find a solution anywhere. Here is what I'm trying to do...

I have a set of Yakima cross bars that I want to mount across my bed utilizing the bed rails in my 07 Tacoma. I don't want them to be permanent and I also want them to be lockable so all my gear can't be stolen by sliding the bars out of the rails with all my gear on them. Does anyone know of a way to do this? I would have thought Yakima or Thule would offer a system to mount cross bars to our rails but it doesn't look like they have. I know Toyota offers bed cross bars but they look flimsy and not lockable. I have tons of Yakima attachments and I'd like to keep my round bars if possible. Does anyone have any ideas or insight? Am I going to need to fabricate this system or is there someone out there already offering a solution?

Another late response on this thread... Sorry we miss the thread - and I hope you found the answer by now.

Regardless... I am looking for the same thing, so I can mount a cargo basket in the bed of the truck... Albeit, I am not worried about locking them down all that much.

My plan is to get a set of the Toyota Crossbars... (they are supposed to work with the Yakima accessories) and then a Yakima LoadWarrior (http://www.yakima.com/racks/rack-systems/product/8007070/loadwarrior.aspx).

Have you done this yet? Pics? Tips?

If not, we can keep this thread alive so we can find a solution.

I tried to order the Tacoma bars however they were out of stock when I ordered them. Apparently, they have been discontinued. Which sucks because I wanted those suckers pretty bad. Most recently (with renewed interest in the topic) I've been taking a look at this thread:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/arizona/68771-2nd-gen-tacoma-bed-bar-feeler.html

I've been talking to this guy for a while now. I'm awaiting a price quote from him for 2 bars that sit flush with thre bed rails. Check my posts towards the end. What you need is exactly what I've been asking him for. Good luck.

I've been working on solving the same challenge. I have Yakima components, as well, and would prefer to use them over the Toyota bike mounts so that I can lock my bikes and preserve the volume of my bed for other cargo. Also, it would seem that Toyota has stopped selling the cross bars.

To date, I've come up with two solutions that I might try. First, use muffler or exhaust mount u-bolts and mount them to the provide tie downs, clamping the cross bars to the tie downs. This would seem to be easy and cheap.

The second, which I have just started to mock up, is creating brackets that mount to the rails. I tried this for my fire extinguisher and it survived a weekend in the Calico mountains. I used 1" x 1/4" x 4" steel from Home Depot and self-tapping screws. My next step is to use that steel as a backing plate that will slip into the rails and 2 1/2" by 2 1/2" angle as a bracket that will sit on the bed. Then I'll have to figure out how to weld the bars to the bracket.....

Yeah, me, too. This might be my excuse to learn. I've also been thinking about clamping the bars to the brackets with u-bolts of some type.

By the way, I saw you posted in a separate discussion a question about bar diameter. I had a hell of a time finding 1 1/8 round tubing and it was expensive when I did find it. For $40 or so, I found a set of used Yakima bars on ebay, which I'm going to use for this application.

I have a set of Yakima round bars too that would work perfectly. I have the concept in my head but just not the ability. I'll try to talk one of my friends into helping maybe.

Thule sells a set of removable locking bars that are perfect for the bed rails. I am saving for a set so that I can mount a Locking roof top carrier on it when working other States.

Can you provide a link or picture of the Thule product?

I will be doing a setup like this but using 2 racks mounted to the bed rail. This setup is from EDRIN55'S rig.

So you're bolting the feet to the bed cover?

No... That is how EDRIN55 mounted his. I am using his picture of his rig to show you the Thule that best fits a bed rail application as it is removable and lockable. I will be mounting it directly to the bed rail.

I also have Yakima bike racks. Has anyone tried INNO bars. Here is a link
    http://www.autoanything.com/truck-racks/65A4841A0A0.aspx?kc=ffproduct
Supposedly the stays will fit the C Rail and are lockable. The bars are rectangular like Thule. A contact at AutoAnything verified that Yakima will fit if you remove the tabs on the bar attachments.

I'm not following you. Are you saying that I could use Yakima bars with the Inno rail mounts? If that's the case, then I would buy these asap.

Sorry for confusion. You buy INNO rail mounts and INNO bars. Your Yakima attachments will fit the INNO Bars. You have to take some tabs out of the yakima attachments so they are square in lieu of being round. I've attached a picture of the mod you have to make on the yakima part.

One more thing. A customer service rep at AutoAnything is checking with INNO to verify the rail mounts will lock on the c rail and the bar length to fit a Tacoma bed. As soon as I hear back I'll post.

I'd be interested in the INNO rack, if it's any good. I'd love to hear from someone who has used one.

Thanks for clearing that up man. That makes sense.

I remember reading about these mounts a while back during my initial search. The c rail mounts are designed specifically for the Tacoma/Frontier. I think it will work perfectly. Unfortunately, this will require yet another set of bars for me which sucks. I wish I knew how to weld!

I think I'm going to end up asking a friend to help me weld my Yakima bars to some plates and mount them in my rails. That should be the cheapest method.

Here is what Denise at Fasttrackracks.com found out about the INNO rail mounts and bars, "Inno just confirmed that the truck stays will fit your vehicle and will require a 65 inch crossbar. Our rep said the truck stays don’t not have a lock but you use a thin cable lock to secure them."

My Yakima bars are only 48, so I have to change. I'm going with INNO.
