this is the white trash solution, but have you just tried some belt dressing to see if it goes away, just to narrow something down?

If it isnt the belt its something rotational/mechanical.

You mean the water pump? The fan just bolts to the water pump pulley. And its the belt that makes all the noise. its not any bearings making racket, and It stops if I hit it with water or a bar of soap.

Maybe take the belt off and turn it around to see if the noise goes away, even for a day or 2?

dealt with the squeak for a couple weeks now.. could soap the belt every morning and would be fine for a little while. Flipped the belt, and was quiet for a day. Put on a new gatorback belt today... it kinda has a whistle sound to it. We will see what happens. I don't know what to do, aside from replacing everything on front of the motor... I cant record it.

i had a squeak for the longest time. Replaced all idlers and belt. still had the noise. Went through the catalytic converter service campaign to get the cat replaced. Squeak was gone. It's a long shot, but a messed up catalytic converter can produce squeaking noises.

    Good luck.

Wait.. I thought a new belt would be fine for a few days, then gradually start squealing?

Sounds like water pump or fan clutch. Not too hard to rebuild the fan clutch. New ones aren't that expensive either.

    I've had that problem before.

This is a shot in the dark I admit, but..

I wonder if your AC compressor is going.

I had a 1997 Olds Achieva with about 40K that started randomly squeaking soon after I bought it. I had thought of a belt at first but the belt looked okay. Come to find out the compressor clutch was going and the squeak was there. I suspect it may have been a shady mechanic in part to blame, but that's another story. Had the compressor clutch replaced and no issues. Can't hurt to have it checked.

Find the appropriate gage for the belt and check belt for wear. Gage can also be used to check pulleys. Water pump is not the largest load on the belt so if there is slippage it is not the belt, it is the pulley.

Does it only squeak when starting? Or at all times? I get a squeak on a cold morning but only for a couple minutes.

9/10 ac clutch only squeal when ac is on or defrost is on and ac compressor cycles on shortly.

I'm a commercial transport mechanic not a automotive one however. There could be differences in the activation of the ac clutch.

To touch on your squeal - for the noise to eliminate after installing a new belt then gradually get louder over a period of a few days ... that tells me that the belt is stretching and becoming loose. New, tight, no squeal. Could something be heating the belt up causing it to Stretch? Heat generated from friction via a failing pulley bearing is my guess.
