I've been wanting to do this mod for a while now. A lot of people are doing this but the process they were using involved cutting the terminals of the bulb assembly. I tried that, and after 2 failed attempts...i quit...

I looked around and found these plug and play bulbs. They are about $7 each and they dont involve any cutting. They are definitely worth it IMO...
    Here are some quick pictures:

Here we are comparing the two bulbs.
(New bulb on the left, OEM bulb on the right):

I will get more pics soon. I forgot to get pics of the OEM bulb lit up, but i will definitely add them later on.

Here's where i got the new bulbs from:

how would you use HID's as reverse lights? what about the warm up time on them? by the time they were fully bright you could already be going forward and on your way.

some people dont understand what they are doing..."they are just f'ing bright"... i bet he got 16000K too cause he thought they were brighter than all the 6000K, 8000K and even the 12000K!! what a joke.

to the OP, good work. i know they also have some bulbs at pepboys that are drop in 50W, but they are clear glass, not blue.

you can. ive seen them on some cars before, and theyre actually pretty useful.

the ones ive seen get to pretty damn bright fast, like within a second or two after the initial burst, faster than hid headlamps do, so it is def. brighter than oem.

It does work you allow it to warm up 2-3 seconds and its way brighter than stock. KBrownCustoms.com has it. I have seen his in person and they are way fucking bright especially if you have heavily tinted windows or taillights.

Just to give the "white" look to it i believe so it doesnt have the yellow hue.

100 bucks plus shipping and it come with ultra thin ballast so its easy to mount behind your lights. He told me 6K is preferred but any color will still be bright.

6% Tint all around, Toyota all-weather floor mats, Toyota bed extender and skid plate, Python 991 remote-start alarm, oem cruise control and class III hitch were all installed within a couple months. I then installed Icon c/o's and Icon's 3-leaf aal with 17x9" GA9's and 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratrac's. The DRL mod was done, as was a custom rack setup similar to the org. cross bars. Blacked out headlights bought online, and a BOSS 1500 under-seat sub installed along with a Pioneer double-din DVD player
OK, so I want to resurrect this thread, b/c I ordered the cheaper version of the OP's bulbs:

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4435

And they did NOT fit in the factory reverse-bulb socket; with or w/o the prongs still attached. They ARE the same bulbs, just w/o the blue tint, correct!?

OP...were they a direct drop-in; even with those prongs still attached??

I'm about to drop $13 for some Sylvania 886's and try that mod, but thought I'd post here before I waste any more time/money.
