I've never been off roading in an automatic so it's hard for me to give advice. Manuals have worked for me. It's mostly being careful and planning. Look at the rocks ahead and remember where they are as they vanish under the hood as you get closer. And knowing your limitations and when to turn around.

I have no problem with owning either. I used to be a manual man and enjoyed it and now I am an auto man and enjoy it just as much. To me it is a personal preference in what you want and no way will I ever say a manual is better because you can control what gear you are in which is a fact, but the auto has advantage in its own right like in stop and go traffic. I hear all the time of people complaining the auto is sluggish is why I own the manual. The auto is sluggish if you let it be sluggish. If you use the gas pedal like most manual people do while winding it out in each gear before shifting then you will find the auto has just as much get up and go. That's my opinion from owning both and you don't have to agree with me I don't care either way but I will never be convinced otherwise.

The words "man" and "automatic" should not be used in the same sentence.

So I shouldn't tell you that I have to MANualy shift the AUTOMATIC into drive on my rental SR5 because I truck is in the shop.

Seriously though, I am in a auto sr5, and the transmission isn't as bad as I expected. I does shift a lot in my opinion, but you have to listen for it and I would expect it to try to keep the RPMS down. I expected it to shift hard and loud from reading comments around here on TW. that being said, I miss my manual trans.

Man this thread is full of manual lovers. I personally come from driving an 04 tiburon v6 5 speed manual for 13 years and am super excited and happy to not have to shift gears again! Believe it or not it was tearing my left knee up lol. I don't think I'll ever own a manual again

Nor should manual. I hope you don't tie for you to be a man you got to own a manual, If that is the case I certainly don't put any stock in advise you post.

So I stumbled across a used 2016 DCSB TRD SPORT with the 6 speed manual at the nearby dealer and had to check it out. I've got about 45,000 miles on my 2016 TRD OR with the auto and I was blown away. I don't hate the auto nearly as much as some people here but I was very impressed by the manual. I see why there are zero complaints about them. The jump from 1 to 2 felt pretty wide but otherwise I think it's great. It cruises very nicely at 65-80 mph and there's zero problem passing in 6 gear.

If you can get a manual I'd highly recommend it, especially if you will be towing. My auto gets it done but you'll be hanging in 4th all day, maybe 3rd depending on the speed and terrain. If you never drive over 55 the auto would be great but for a lot of us that's not a reality. I'm considering trading mine on a 2017 and now that I've driven one with the MT I think I'm sold. I actually got a pretty good trade offer too.

I don't tie my manhood to a clutch and stick shift. Some of you might. I got my own stick and its not inside a truck.
