I have two wires going into what looks like the front hub assembly what are they for? They're cut off on both sides.

Looks like that would be your ABS/wheels speed sensor.

Wouldn't that cause it to throw an abs light though?

It lights up when your first turn the key on but not after it does the pre-start dash light sequence.

Check to see if the fuse has been pulled. It might still light up the bulb before you start it even without the fuse.

Depending on the system you can bypass by either simply disconnecting both sensors or by jumping the 2 wires, some need a resistor connecting the 2.

In any case a previous owner chose the right method and likely it can be reversed. Fwiw in most cases abs does stop you faster, but it gives more of an oh crap sensation than straight brakes.

My ABS light stays on all the time after I hung one of my brake calipers up on the UCA w/ a bungee cord and the bungee cord broke yanking on the ABS/speed sensor. The light will burn out eventually but until then it's on all the time. My ABS still works though. The light doesn't go off after the pre start dark light sequence

Sorta off topic here and im ranting but gosh the 1st gen abs SUCKS!!! I swear its more dangerous on slick surfaces when that system comes on! Idk if it just dosent pulse fast enough er what but you just continue on your trajectory for way too long with the abs doing its thing! My tacos arent equipped thank goodness, but if they were it would be disabled fur sure!! Maybe on dry ground it might be useful but dry ground it really isnt needed, atleast in my mind. Slick stuff is where it can be useful, but not that old toyota system! Shit if ya know how to drive it shouldnt be ever really needed anyway, but of course there are far more dip shits on the road that are clueless drivers and are basically totally clueless to the workings of their rig and how to drive and manipulate their truck in any kind of "situation" that might occur. Like bringing it out of a drift/slide situation with steering and gas manipulation or not to just slam and hold the breaks on in an emergency and then wonder why they cant steer or really slow down to much ya know....ive always felt that people that "play" with their vehicles like say when its snowy out go find a place to break traction and spin and slide around. Doing that you will learn so much about the handling and manipulation of your vehicle that otherwise you'd never really learn....

Anyways rant over i suppose lol!!
