Not difficult. Maybe slightly more aggravating than swapping packs but not much.

 

Hey guys, getting bigger tires put on my '04 automatic 5 lug, probably gonna go with 30".
Will need to regear it eventually, it could probably use one even before the bigger tires...
Anyway, any shop recommendations nearby?
Currently emailing back and forth with ECGS, I'm not 100% on what all I need, and I don't know enough to try this myself.

AAL is no more difficult than a full pack. C-clamps are your friends.

 

My vote is for LESS difficult.

Nah. Same process regardless.

 

As Dave said, c-clamps. Jack up the truck, put a stand under the frame rail, remove the wheel, jack up slightly on the axle, remove the lower shock bolt, put a c clamp on either side of the u bolts, take off the u bolts, loosen the center pin nut on the leaf pack under the bumpstop, let the axle down, remove the center pin bolt, let off on the c clamps, remove the leaf pack, install the aal.

 

Then use the c-clamps to squeeze the leaves back together. Putting a long screwdriver through all the leaves will keep them aligned while you compress them. Put your center pin in, tighten the nut, trim the excess and bolt everything back together.
