I've lived in Florida my entire life, but recently my employer extended me an offer to relocate to the DFW area. I've decided to rent for a year before purchasing a home since I've only been to the area once before and that was just for a few days. I'm eyeing a house in Irving for rent, actually on Lake Vilbig. Anyone familiar with this area? I'd like to get an idea of what I'm looking at in terms of traffic (my office is off Park Row in Grand Prairie, my girlfriend's is in Las Colinas), what else is in the area, and whether it's a generally decent area.

Oh, and outside of a few people at work I don't know a soul in the DFW area. Guess you all are my new friends! lol

Most of the DFW area is awesome in my opinion. I know the Grand Prarie/Arlington area have some nasty traffic at rush hour, but what large cities dont? Living in DFW there is always something to do, and nothing is more than 30 or 40 minutes away at the most.

DFW is pretty cool...The only thing I don't like is Dallas...Really dosen't do anything for me. Irving is a very nice place...Fort Worth FTW!!! I love Ft. Worth.

Also you gotta deal with all the Cowboys fans...Uhggg...They are annoying.

in case you didn't already know, apopka is a suburb of Orlando so I am no stranger to absolutely ridiculous, tourist-infested traffic jams every day lol. to make matters worse, I work right off international drive (think universal, sea world, everything i hate orlando for...) and also have to commute through downtown. traffic is the worst this time of year, as the tourists compound with the snowbirds to make for a huge fvckfest on the roads.

I've heard Fort Worth is the place to be, but right now I'm really just looking for a cheap place so I can get situated before settling down with a mortgage.

I live in Las Colinas (Lake Carolyn) area, I don't know if I would consider it ideal if you're working in Grand Prairie considering there are places that are much closer and probably equally nice.
It's a sweet area though, they based it on San Antonio with the riverwalk running through it and such. I personally don't care for South Irving all that much.
Really, you should just expect to be 20-40 minutes away from anything and everything no matter where you are.
2x on Downtown Dallas sucks. Go once to see the book depository and from then on stick to Ft. Worth.

AAAAAAND stay away from Toyota of Irving (Terrible all around establishment) and Toyota of Dallas (Service center is ok, but I actually went somewhere else to buy my truck for a slightly higher price because I hated the salesmen so much here, Complete toolbags.)

Stick with Toyota of Lewisville or Plano.

    Just my opinion though. ;)

David, you're in my back yard. Maybe once 8th Sin rolls into town we can all go down to the Hooters off Belt Line and 183 to grab a few cold ones. Or better yet, we can take him to BabyDolls one of my other favorite places.

    LOL that's Irvine*

I'm sure you'll like it here. The lake you mentioned and your work are only about 10mi apart, so that isn't bad. Actually used to know a few girls who live in the neighborhood around that lake.

I went there last month. My knight died first, so I was pissed throughout the rest of the show.
