Reputable mechanic or "New best friend" Dallas, Ft Worth area

Ok, so I've been riding my sexy doublecab 09' TRD off-road bone stock
for 9500k and I can't take it any more.

I've made the decision to quit procrastinating and start my
lift/wheels/tires..etc

After tons of research and changing my mind back and forth I've decided on a plan of action (I think):
3" Icon Stage 1 lift
Total Chaos UCAs
16" FJ anthracite SE wheels
BG Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2 - 285/75/16
(Spacer maybe? Undecided)

Now, if that all sounds like I halfway know what I'm talking about... you're wrong. I know only what I've read on here. I've never claimed to be mechanically inclined nor do I have time to do ANY installation myself.
(I work 10 hrs/day 7 days a week ALL the time) And it's not like this could be a side project, cause she is my daily driver.

With all that said here goes my question, but this applies to the DFW area only:

Where/who will install my lift for me without charging me out of the ass in labor? And since i'm no mechanical genius, I don't want to take it to "Joe's mechanic" and have them screw something up. I've tried to find somewhere, but to no success. Anyone in the area know of somewhere or someone that can help me out?

Less important off subject question:
Does anyone know if the Icon kit AAL is compatible with the TSB AAL? I read somewhere that you will have to remove the OL spring for the icons lift, but will that be a concern? (I haven't done the TSB yet, but was hoping to boost my load capacity.)

I can't speak for your individual stores, assuming there is one nearby you. I have had a very good install done by a nearby (3hrs away) 4WP store. They should be able to answer your questions too.

 

I had a bad experience with the one here. Called 3 times asking about a cat-back borla exhaust system for my 2003 prerunner... They would never give me a quote and always said "We'll call you back and let you know when we have an open appointment".

Never heard a word. So I decided they would never get my business for anything, ever.

Maybe i'll try the Plano store.

 

By the way, what did you have done there and do you recall the cost?

 

I had a procomp lift installed at the raleigh 4wp. Don't remember the cost exactly, but they did a very good job. Sorry to hear about your bad experience, is there another one maybe a little further away?

 

Yeah, there are 3 in the DFW area. I've only called the closest one. I'll have to give them a call and see how they feel about me bringing in my own lift and not buying one of theirs. They'll probably want to charge me twice as much for labor... but i'm just guessing since i'm already biased to the establishment.

 

They quoted me 1,000.00 plus tax to install:
3" Icon Stage 1 lift
Total Chaos UCAs
16" FJ anthracite SE wheels
BG Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2 - 285/75/16
Includes balance and alignment.

This assumes me bringing in all of my own parts.

Does that seem good?

http://rockandrolloffroad.com/ had mine done by these guys. mechanic that does work drives a tocoma with kings,knows what he's doing. i talked to him for awhile and asked lots of questions and he had all the right answers (i already knew the answers)

 

I'm not sure what exactly is involved in installing all of that. But I do know they installed my 6" lift which ended up taking 2 days, less than that. I can't remember exactly how much, but it wasn't $1000 even with tax if I remember right.

 

Yeah, I think they're trying to overcharge on labor since I'm not buying the gear from them. I'm not paying 1000.00 for a 5 hour labor job. I'll keep searching...

Just a shame, that speaks volumes of your character and overall hygiene. Also I'm pretty sure I texted you these same places yesterday, so I'll be expecting my beer next time I'm in town.

 

I could do it for you, but I ain't got the time. Buy your wheels off of Ebay or Fjcruiserforums.com, buy your tires at Discount Tire local to you and have them mounted up.

No clue man, with school, work and a wife, I don't get alot of time for road trips. I'm going to try to get work to fly me back out in March or April. They usually do a crawfish boil, and I'm the resident expert so they can't do it without me.

I think last year they paid somebody to come out and boil for them. Had to pay them like $150 just to show up, then ended up paying something crazy like $7/lb. I thought about quitting my job and just boiling crawfish for Texans for the first quarter of the year.

 

i have a friend that did most of the work on my truck, and will warranty his work. he normally charges 20/hour, sometimes less depending on how easy tha job is. Just buy your parts from 4wheelparts and have this guy install everything. he lives in aledo, thats where he does his work, but he is also a mobile mechanic and will come to you. let me know if you want his info
