2005 to 2015 have the insulator built into the engine cover-unbolt the two nuts and lift it and there's the typical white fabric insulator stuff. Never looked under the hood of a 2016+ but they may have similar.

    1. If the painted underside of the hood rusts before the exposed body or the bare steel frame, you would have a valid point. But it won't and you don't.
    2. Given that the Tacoma is marketed and used as a casual-use off road vehicle...the engineers probably anticipated the underside of the hood getting wet from various off road escapades. Wet sagging hood insulation causing issues was deemed likely and avoided.

My '15 Camry has it but my '14 T4R doesn't.

But, both have very sexy factory hood struts.

I'm guessing the A pillar grab handle goes away when off set crash test begin applying to the right side.

Both my Land Cruiser and Hilux have a hood insulator. I'm pretty sure my FJ doesn't have one though.

Maybe Toyota being cheap about the 3rd gen hood insulator is another cost savings method. Kind of the same way they filled its transmission fluids: not all the way full :notsure:

That's fine, I think it's about visibility. Pillars are getting fat as fuck, no reason to add a handle to further the issue. Doesn't matter for passenger side, passenger doesn't need to see. Otherwise if they wanted to save a buck they'd take both out.
