Is curling a sport?

I am curious to know if you all would actually consider Curling a sport VS hobby VS game, etc...

IMHO, just because it is in the Olympics doesn't make it a sport...
It doesn't seem like a true example of athletic ability. For example, if you asked a world class curler to play virtually any other sport (football, basketball, baseball, soccer) at even a rec league level you couldn't have any level of confidence based on their ability to curl.

I am not knocking curlers, just that I question it's classification as a "sport".

It's hard to deny that cheerleaders at a competition level aren't athletes though... I doubt we will be seeing it in the olympic games anytime soon though....

Curling is a "sport" intended for women. It has elements of ironing on ice as well as brooming the floors.

well if one of the girls with the brooms falls in front of the rock and it hits her you might see some blood

Have you guys ever tried it? I haven't, and I bet it's a shit load harder to do and do well than a lot of other "sports". Same with cheerleading, and darts, and billiards, and table tennis. Everything requires some amount of skill and it doesn't necessarily have to be physical (even though getting the right amount of power behind that thing would technically be physical, but i digress)

I'm just saying, just because they aren't huge 250 pound jocks doesn't mean they aren't athletes.

OK, so like I've never in my life heard of this "sport" curling. Just looked it up on youtube. And I was like, seriously? You push this "stone" with a freaking stick? And like this other person jerks off in front of it while its moving?

I'm seriously confused? I'm not trying to offend anyone. But for real, what the hell made this "sport"

 

i actually got hooked watching curling last season but in the early games i just fast forward to the last 2 rocks of each End. i voted yes but really i think sports should be reserved for physically exhausting stuff. but hey if score is kept and there is a winner and a loser then technically its a sport

 

It kind of bugs me though that somebody that competes in a sport like ice hockey or down hill skiing is rewarded the same way as a curler... an Olympic gold medal... really???
It just doesn't seem right to me...
