    We packaged a similar mod for the "New Edge" ('96 TO '04) some years back, to turn off the traction control that defaulted to on--got a lot of customers, probably a couple hundred requesting a PnP version. The problem was to get the connectors at all we would have had to buy 500 of each (m & f), and to get them at a price point that would have worked would have required buying 2500+.

    With Ford's EECV system we could disable the t/c in the tune. I have not had opportunity to play much with the Techstream software, is this something that can be done with same?

    I would use a solid state relay like this one.... reliable as all get out. Solid as a brick.
    I use these in industrial controls applications.

    I also like the idea of the screwed terminals, no splices.

    for reference....
    I also have one on my motorcycle to turn off all of my accesory electronics (usb, voltage meter, power socket, and LED lights). (key triggered)


    Pictured is from a motorcycle forum post I did years ago. I later added a 10 Amp breaker manual reset) between the battery post and the relay. BMW F800GS.

    I wonder if this is a common toyota plug?? usally there is a very tiny manufactures mark on the plug. BTW.. Does the ETC have a wire whip, I am guessing probably not? I see on ebay the old 94 ECT had a whip.


    Awhile back I was making air temp shifters for KTM motorcycles... after weeks of research and digging thru automotive parts catalogs , i found the device was also used in honda cars. Sooo...I went to the junkyard in my area and pulled a bunch of sensors and cut all the plugs from the factory wiring harness. I made some (negative) connectors using them as epoxy molds.

    Nice solution. But I never use my handbrake. Why wouldn't you just hit the ECT button since it requires you to manipulate it anyway?

    Like me, he probably uses the handbrake every time he parks.

    I've had enough issues the few times i didn't use my handbrake...

    I spoke to the service manager about this. He said in order for them to meet mpg ratings, the Ext switch HAD to be a switch that was manually engaged by the driver every time it is used. It couldn't be automatic or else they wouldn't be able to post their mpg ratings that they do

    Nope, sorry. Been too lazy/busy with other projects to source the OEM connectors (male and female). Plus, there is only 4 wires you have to tap in the truck(and they are all within a foot of each other)

    am confused, post #24 OP says oop's was a problem. post #46 it is spelled out without using a relay. i read thru all 7 pages, i have all the parts just need clarification. those of you that have done this is it the original wiring diagram as shown in the first post? if not can you refer me to the one i should follow. also did you use some type of tap connectors to splice into the ECT and Lighter wires or did you cut wires?

    I get exactly the same milage whether I'm running ECT on or off. Maybe due to my (terribly inefficient) driving habits?
