To all my Canadian TW Bros . :canada: Where's the cheapest source for 5100s and OME coils? About to pull the trigger.

So far I have Toytec for springs @ 170 US and local distributor here for 330 CAD for the 5100s.

About 600 all in. (CAD )

Today I mounted up a Yakima roof rack on my Leer 180 shell. It looks a bit more user friendly than my older Thule bars. I like it!

Did you actually tow that, if so how did the truck do?

Finally took the truck out for a spin and here's what I noticed with the intake. Throttle response feels a bit more responsive and the truck pulls a little harder during acceleration through the lower rpm range, felt it when shifting through the first 3 gears coming onto the freeway. Couldn't really hear the intake growl though because I also have the TRD exhaust so it kind of drowns it out. Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with this upgrade

You serious? Just go to the TRD PRO threads on this forum, any of them there is plenty of pics with different size tires, they fit just fine, amazing looking wheels. You will probably have to remove your front mud guards if your truck has them equipped. Mine would rub on the mudguards until i got a 3in lift on my 2gen, so its safe to say they will rub on a stock pro as well. With an analogues size, but more aggressive tire, you should gain an extra inch of height.

Are you ordering them new? Or doing a swap, it'll be costly, but worth it, thats why I still have mine from my 2nd gen. If you're doing a direct swap just remember to have the shop replace the tire pressure sensors, if its from an older 4runner.

I think this may be a cool idea. Can't really help with the wiring but, if you get this to work, can you do some sort of a wright up on it?

I also put on the roof rack today, after reading the horror stories on here will be taking the truck to get sprayed tomorrow, see if its water sealed or if I need to reinstall with some Home Depot equipment, cause we got rain coming up and my truck sits outside. Got my TRD Ball shift knob squared away as well, all is good in the world now.

Just put mine on today as well, also paired to the TRD Exhaust. I would say it does feel a bit more responsive, and I don't think i'm having a placebo effect, it really reminds of the 4.0, the sluggishness is gone, its more responsive in the lower RPMs. Mine is a manual, so I can feel the truck a little better. Call me crazy but I hear the TRD exhaust more now, or maybe it finally got worn in. But I have no idea what everybody is talking about " Intake noise", I don't hear any difference, what is it suppose to be like a whoosh sound? And TRD exhaust is pretty mild, so I wouldn't say it drown anything out. I'm putting on a magnaflow cat back soon, I assume its less restricted then the TRD exhaust, I'm looking forward to hear how the engine will sound.

An intake without the resonator box would really make a difference, that big empty box is just an intake silencer, all they did was make it smaller on the TRD intake, it needs to be eliminated to get that whoosh sound. I do like the practicality of the TRD filter, for anybody who has used one before, what is the maintenance like? Do you just clean and re-oil normally when you would replace the regular filter? What about safety, i'm concerned about the oil part, how do you make sure there is no excess that will find its way into a cylinder?

I don't have the exhaust so I can hear the intake and It sounds real good compared to stock.you need to floor it and let it rev to redline. If you have exhaust you probably don't notice it that it's making the engine growl at full throttle. I haven't heard an exhaust ssystem that sounds good on a toyota v6 they all sound kinda blauuuuuuu instead of grrrrrrrrrrr

Yeah, went about 45 miles round trip with it. Truck wasn't happy about the situation per se but did as well as I could've hoped on wet roads. Cut my mileage down to about 12.5mpg while pulling but all in all I was impressed. The ect power function was a nice little thing to have on some of the hills and freeways around here (western WA).

I'm not doing that, my engine is not even broken in yet, and these engines are not high performance.

Well if you're talking in general terms, yea a V8 would always sound better then a V6, unless you're talking about a high performance V6 like in a nissan GTR or the Ford Raptor its very hard to get a growl out of a regular V6. I agree cheap exhaust makes it sound too drony and high pitched. Its very hard to choose for a good exhaust on a Taco or a Jeep. This is why I love Magnaflow, I've used it on my WRX and 2nd gen Taco. In my last truck under load the engine has a nice throaty Tacoma tone to it, its just right, it dissipates if you keep revving it and doesn't turn into a high pitched 4 banger noise. It sound like a 1st gen V6, even with our new engines you can still hear the Tacoma signature sound. I don't know what they do at Magnaflow, but I love the acoustics of their exhaust. You get a nice deep throaty tone during acceleration with engine under load, between 2 and 4k rpms, and that pleasant gurgle and pop during engine breaking especially in 2nd gear (sorry automatics). The start up also was very nice with a hint of Taco growl.

That's how a good high performance muffler(catback) should be, you should not be hearing it during idle or under freeway cruising in high gear. If you do you're no different then a ricer.

I'm looking forward to this truck as 3rd Gens have much better noise reduction in the cab. On my 2nd gen the Magnaflow was just a tad too loud during freeway driving in 6th gear, just a tad, in this truck it should be perfect.

I'm not sure where to ask this but has anyone ever put a Limited grill on a SR/SR5? They are the same shape but Limited's is shiny and possibly metal (I didn't touch my boss' grill lol)

I didn't personally do them. Was lucky enough to have a local member that did a fantastic job. I have him listed in my build thread if you're interested. He offers the service for members... and thank you

I love the idea of this! The more industrial/steampunk the better! I'm guessing you'll have to do something along the lines of of keeping the OEM switch connected and then hide that inside the dash somewhere. Then it's a matter of figuring out which wires gain continuity when the OEM switch is pressed and then running jumpers from the OEM wiring to the aftermarket switch. Make sure to check all your voltages and resistances when the OEM switch is pressed. You may need additional electronic components to simulate that press of the OEM button to aftermarket button. As for the toggle switch, that should just be a matter of running 12V to the LED and a relay to complete the circuit to the push button. Not a true ignition, but it'll look cool.

Keep in mind that the OEM switch also has a functionality within it that allows the truck to start when the smart key battery is dead. With a dead key battery, you can press the Toyota symbol on the smart key to the PTS button and the truck will still start.

Please keep us posted if you get this to work.
