1" lift from 3rd gen suspension, 265/75/16 ATs
I have 2nd gen with 3rd gen Sport suspension and have zero complaints with ride quality. I was worried it would be to stiff and harsh as I understand 3rd gen is slightly heavier truck, but it all worked out great. I'm not sure if there is a difference in ride quality between 2nd gen Bilstein Sports and 3rd gen Hitachi Sports as it is difficult to compare for me since I was driving on worn out shocks the last little while, but I can say it feels like it was made for the truck and as a bonus I got 1" of lift. (Imho the look all 2nd gens should have come from factory...)

Yeah, the dealer set my tires at 36 lbs during the PDI.... I checked the TPMS on the way home and realized they were way over... Got home and dropped them to 29 like the door sticker says.... !
The ride of the Sport is firm, but I like it that way.

Im waiting for the updated 6112's to come in, designed for the 3rd gen. More notches and no spacer needed with the added notches. I have heard from the tech guys at bilstein... I can go with the older 6112's but Ive been waiting this long I might as well wait for a few more weeks.

I have taken some long trips... what I think bothers me most, is how the trucks rebound at high speed. It rolls unevenly (from left to right) and makes it feel unstable. I know the weight is off from side to side but I want the front end to raise and lower at the same rate. Its stiff and not comfortable in the city and unstable on the highway...

    just my .02

No issues here, ride is great on road. Off road, don't care for FS roads with lots of small dips, not talking about washboard roads. Cutting firewood last Spring, bounce, bounce, bounce. Stock setup, only add ons are the sliders and skid plate.

I have a 16 TRD Sport... the suspension compared to the OR is stiff and bouncy. The OR has Bilstein shocks that are valved the same as the 5100s. I changed out the front springs for 885s and 5100s and Icon Progressive AALs and 5100s in the rear. Problem solved.... around town nice smooth ride, wheeling the suspension is grounded and not bouncy and it digs in and gets going without rattling my back teeth. Problem solved.... I agree with the OP but didn't notice until upgrade.

    Quick update:

I went from stock TRD sport suspension to 6112 (3rd gen) and 5160's in the rear.

A few thoughts I have and my first impression after I installed and got an alignment. I just drove up the coast and hit the highway on the way up and took surface streets on the way back to give myself the real world conditions I want to see..

Overall I am very happy. I think this is how the truck should come stock and maybe the OR is much better but I could not stand the sport suspension. Those of you who say you like it are living in ignorant bliss because when you drive a truck that has a good shock set up, you would be amazed at the difference.

I noticed that the Dive I felt when I hit the brakes hard is gone, before my nose would drop a foot or more and now its very slight and seems better equipped to handle the weight on the front. The highway seems more stable and less roll left/right so the truck seems balanced on that axis as well. Before when I would hit a large dip at highway speeds I would notice the the driver and passenger sides of the truck would not raise and drop at the same time making the ride feel unstable, That has been resolved. I also noticed that its better with the "washboard" type roads and is able to absorb those smaller bumps and smooth out the ride. It was a jostle before and now its like a glide. You still know the bumps are there but it doesnt shake your cab apart.

In town: the ride is night and day. These handle the LA roads as well as I could hope and I feel like this is what I wanted when I bought the truck. Firm and tough but smooth on road. The combination of the 6112/5160 is well balanced and I only notice a slight advantage to the front under no Load. I used to hate to ride around in town as I felt the rebound and compression were so off for the sport. Now it rides like a truck. No weight issues. no nose dive. no left to right roll. better around a corner. takes potholes like a champ. I havent packed everything up and headed out to camp yet though...

If you are considering these.. I would def jump on them and you will not regret it.

Im excited to see them off road and fully loaded.

I am at a stock ride height and will likely run a 1-1.5 in lift in the future.

hope this helps you with what ever decision you make on your suspension

OP, so at this point you have only changed out the shocks? 6112 in the front and 5160 in the back. No coil covers. Very curious and just trying to learn a few things, thanks?

6112 is a coil over set up and comes with a new spring set

Notching up reduces ride quality. I despise how preloaded springs ride. Glad to hear it rides better. I bought the Offroad after being disappointed in the ride of the Sport as well.

with the 3'rd gen 6112 you dont run a spacer for taco lean but you run them at an un even notch on the shock. I was worried this would affect the ride but it felt good down the road. I think the driver is a bit higher for now but i expect it to settle under the weight. I am still debating with running the spacer and keeping them at the same notch.

I also dont want to preload the spring too much.

Despite what I may have previously said, I'm glad to see you've found a solution for your unhappiness with the suspension.
I agree that one could make the sport suspension much better as you have. Personally I didn't expect a different ride when I purchased my truck so I'm happy with what it is.
