hahaha yeah i hear ya. like i said i think it really should be reserved for physically exhausting stuff, but the definition of sport is very liberal which makes it stupid...hahahahah no pun intended. i better be careful ahhahahah

    Is Bowling a sport?

    What about Billards?

Or archery / shooting? I think curling takes more physical strength than shooting a rifle or shotgun in the summer games.

Definition of "sport" is wide ranging so most games/activities included. I feel that you have to at least get your heart rate up from activity to be considered a sport.

    sport (spôrt, sp[IMG]rt)
    n. 1. a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
    b. A particular form of this activity.

    2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
    3. An active pastime; recreation.

    Who cares??

It's a very very popular thing in some areas/countries and had been around forever. Regardless of how physically involved it may or may not be....it's still a huge event and involved skill and I'm sure tactics too.

    Just because it's not popular around here....doesn't mean it's a non-sport.

I know that the technical definition of 'sport' would include just about anything that you do outside of your mind, but curling sure doesn't meet mws4ua's definition of a sport (just like bowling/golf/NASCAR)...

but that doesn't mean it's not awesome. It's one of my favorite winter olympic events.

I think few things are actually sports. Most of the summer Olympics are sports. I put gymnastics as a kinda sport, because it is judged.

Golf, nascar, POKER, curling, any judged event - are not true sports.

Track and swimming are the purest form of sport. You against others to see who is the fastest. I beat you, I win. no controversy. no questions asked.

If you can perform the " sport " with one hand and the other can hold a beer without spilling it then no. Example darts, bowling, and yes curling.
If you spill it then yes it is a sport.

I'd say you have try it before you consider it not a sport. And for those of you that say it is not physically exhausting you should try running back and forth on the ice sweeping. It may not be as physically demanding as hockey but if you had an understanding of the strategy behind the sport I think you could have a better appreciation of what they are doing. I never watched curling before I started playing. Now I watch every match I can, that is unless there is a hockey game on. And no, I'm not canadian but geographically close.

I know nothing about this curling thing. But hey, if we can win a medal then I'm for it. It does seem to require a certain set of skills to move this large rock down the ice in proper fashion. Like bowling with brooms on ice.
As far as it's classification as a sport I'd say yes due to the skillset it requires. Poker, on the other hand is a game and a fad that went way out of control. Nascar is just a show now, which is starting to resemble the WWF as the years pass, only more polite.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
They killed NASCAR when they made them all run the same car and limited the drivers from "racing".

Well by your definition then, Chris4x4's entire house is classified as a sport.

dude, sweeping is hard! I'm by no means a perfect athlete, but I've seen very fit hockey & football players try curling for "fun" and were sweating and breathing hard from sweeping.

    My vote...yes it is a sport :)

It is much harder than what you think. Are you able to slide a stone with such precision? Keep your balance while grooming the ice while determining how much ice needs to be melted to get proper distance or speed?
