What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

They are 35x12.5r15s...so...A)not a cheap tires B) you HAVE to tub the fire wall and regear the diffs...so...not cheap. about a 3-4k investment all new haha

I love the MTRKs but they are a terrible tire for any truck that isn't a dedicated offroader. They don't last long, wear odd and are pretty loud. the KM2 will serve better for a weekend warrior or even the Coopers i think, either the STT Pro or ST Maxx.

The Goodyears are just too damn pricey and don't last long enough that unless your do nothing but offroad in the truck, you'll be lucky to get 30-40k out of them and unless those are mostly dirt miles..ain't worth it. Best damn offroad tire out there.

 

I'm pretty sure that's about how much I'll get out of these KO2s. They are wearing pretty damn fast and you'd think a soft tire would at least have decent grip when aired down... chuck testa

MTRs in my future for sure, 33s first though, 35s when long travel becomes a thing

 

interesting. I do know the Ko2s are a bit soft, so i guess its no surprise.

One of the main reason i went St Maxx on Igor was so i wouldn't have to buy tires again for a long time they last 50-70k ive read. So that'll be nice.

Again, i love the MTRs are Franks next set will be them most likely. But terrible for a DD truck. Especially if you have ice and snow a lot. They are scary in the ice and hard pack snow..

 

I'm always looking to retire the truck from DD duty, eventually I'll find a decent daily. Have some change set aside for when the right vehicle crosses. But at 30-40k I don't think that's a bad compromise for a tire that does its job properly. The KO2s are chunking too which is disconcerting. I like the coopers too, seem like solid tires. Had some AT3s back in the day on an Explorer and they were decent too.

 

Chase saphire preferred, they were offering 100k for 4gs in four months...the promo ended in january...worked out perfect for my timing on armor.

 

I notice your tires are mounted symmetrically, I pointed out in one of boxrockets Instagram pictures of his sons pickup they were mounted with the tires all facing the same way, he said they were supposed to be mounted this way. Now I'm wondering what the proper way to mount these things is

 

Yeah thats why I am going km2...when this becomes offroad only i will regear to 35's...i have a friend who has the good years in 37" haha he spent a shit ton on them...bigger tires...lower gearing...lots of doe ray me

Yea i have no complaint on mine, got them used and had them for 3 years haha doing fine. Will need replaced soon though.

Not impressed with the Ko2s and the fact tire shops won't sell them around here speaks a lot haha

They are asymmetrical. How i have them is fine. I guess you can do it like how the photo you have is too. But they aren't a symmetrical tire. I've always seen them run like how i have them.

 

yea..big tires are expensive..wish we could fit and run 37s confidently. But our tiny front diffs won't cope. 35s are big for them as it is.

No problems with that, just a personal thing. I have a couple future exceptions to it too.

Haha yeah. I just make sure I never drop below a certain limit. Just pinch pennies for a while to save up some.

 

IMO, it is unreasonable to expect any MT to last longer than 40K.

 

Lol they are absolutely not supposed to be mounted like that, they say ON THE TIRE which side has to be out. The large lugs are ejection lugs, they keep the tires center-seeking, otherwise they'll be throwing mud/snow/whatever towards the inside and trying to push the tires out.

 

Agreed, some are just more pricey than others and will wear faster, but ultimately youre right, mt's arent meant for highways

 

If only the world's greatest minds would stop trying to cure cancer and invent a mud tire that's quiet and lasts a long time.
