So i know, locking firearms in your truck is a no-no. Your vehicle is not a holster and it does no good if your ccw is in the truck. I know tons of people who carry regardless of "rules" in place because criminals dont follow the rules.. BUT... Sometimes its unavoidable, like if you go into a courthouse or other areas youll need to pass through security measures to enter.... I was wondering what product everyone uses?

i know theres a locking storage that goes under the rear seat made by a member here which im considering for long guns, but short of leaving my ccw at home, in the center console or the little cubby next to the steering wheel ive found myself with few options... Thinking about the following product (pics below) as an option if anyone has any experience with it.

edit: i know theres a center console vault that is locking, but i hate losing that space for storage.... i have lots of things that go in there

Console vault. Bolts in, secure, hidden. You really don't lose that space, it just happens to be more secure. I keep gum, ammo, flashlight and other stuff in there just like I did before.

I don't like the idea of my gun being open and visible, even if it's secure and locked. I like the vault better.

Most places that have security like courthouses etc will secure your weapon for you while you're in the building. Just be smart about notifying them and transferring it to them. I know, handing a stranger your weapon doesn't feel right.

Never thought about asking a place like a court house to store my firearm. Not a horrible idea. I would mind giving it to a peace officer

Should there be any concern for how hot it gets in the truck with storing a gun in the there?

I live in the hottest of the hot cities and I've never had a bullet explode in the heat.

Cool. I just wondered if that was something to consider if storing in your vehicle. Would a locking glove box be an option? Keep it out if sight plus the added layer of security?

No, the interior of the car would have to get atleast another 100-150 degrees hotter than what cars experience to be an issue.

    Plastics would be melting.

    Edit: degrees Fahrenheit

I'm not sure I'd feel safe locking one in a flimsy plastic box. I'm pretty sure I could rip a locked glovebox open without any tools. Obviously the person would have to really want to get in there to attempt it, but still.

I have a vault under the driver seat attached to the seat mount with a cable. It's out of sight and reasonably secure. I only use it when I need to go into a verbotten location for concealed carry (post office, gov buildings etc.).

I use one of the metal lock boxes that has a cable that you loop around something. It's not going to stop someone with a screwdriver and some time but it's not going to be yanked out by a smash and grab either. I've also got a PacSafe net that I keep in my truck for securing my pack/laptop/whatever, that it can be placed in for an extra layer of security.

I understand the need to secure firearms, but there is a practical limit too. In the end a determined enough criminal can get into anything.

This seems like the safest option to me. I like that it can't be removed from the vehicle. Seems like it would take longer to break into, as well. This is what I plan to do with my console eventually. I don't have to leave my firearm in my truck very often, but I like having an option for when it does happen.

Yup--that's what the Baby Browning is for...

I would never leave a weapon in my vehicle, and therefore would never go anywhere (carrying) that required me to do so...

Keep it on you. How many times you gotta go to court? If more than every other year for Jury duty, you probably ain't carrying legal.
