Park your truck on a sight hill, nose up, let it cool. Run it for a minute, the air will collect at the radiator filler cap, and you can turn the truck off and fill it more.

Did you drain the engine block? There are drain cocks on either side.

Gurgling is most likely from air bubbles in the heater core. Try Crom's method to get as much of them out as possible. As long as the engine is not overheating, you can keep refilling the reservoir as needed. Also, with engine cold and rad cap open, slowly squeeze the hoses to push out some of the bubbles.

 

Yes I drained the engine block. I tried squeezing the radiator hose while it was cold and I was just getting coolant all over the place. I've got the truck in my garage right now with the hood closed and the radiator Cap slightly open. Hoping if it sits over night it may let some of the air out.

 

Okay, got all of the air out but won't take the full 3 gallons still but it's running fine, not over heating or leaking so I'm gonna call it good.

Weird question but is it normal for the radiator to over flow a bit when you open the radiator cap

 

If the engine is warm, yes.

Did you turn the heater on high, while while idling, to get the coolant through the heater core?

A large funnel which fits snug into the radiator opening, can also be used to allow proper filling and burping.

Letting the engine to reach full operating temp, with the funnel in place. As the thermostat opens, the coolant will rise or fall, and you just fill until it stops sucking air. Close enough synopsis.

 

Will be Changing out my coolant soon and ordered the Lisle #24680 Spill Free Funnel Kit, and also Discovered that a 13/16" Socket fits the Radiator Drain valve. Thanks for all the helpful Posts.

 

Man that's a SERIOUS kit. I like that a lot. I've always just used a regular old funnel but I might need to invest in one of those as well. Nice.

Mine just arrived today, thank you Amazon Prime! I just used it to change the coolant on the wife's Corolla. The radiator cap adapter fit perfectly.

It was the cleanest and easiest coolant job I have done in over 40 years. Just wish I had this a few months ago when I did my Tacoma. Actually I wish I had it 40 years ago!

I thought coolant always circulated through the heater core with newer vehicles. I know on my 87 F150 there was a valve that opened up when you turned it to hot. If coolant is always going through heater core than why turn heater on when changing coolant.

 

I've changed all of the fluid in my truck when I bought her used, except for the coolant. I have to put this on my to do list. My truck is a 2009 Prerunner with 86k on the odo, as far as I know the coolant has never been changed.
