What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Picked up a 1st gen?

 

Yup - it's a project. So far I need to fix the clutch pedal with a new spring and maybe a new bushing, replace the radiator, replace a rear axle bearing & seals, and then I can move on to fun stuff...

 

Noice, that's not too bad of a list. Any clue as to the cause of death for the radiator? The rear axle stuff will likely be annoying tho.

 

Completely agree with this. That's why I keep running my tires cause I have 30k on them and they have over half tread left

 

Have you had experience with this? The radiator's leaking from the top - I haven't compressed the system to completely see, but it's 10 years old and I can get a new one for $120 so I'm thinking about replacing it.

Passenger front on Adams sons truck has big lugs on the inside, that's wrong.

I've got about 37k on my 285's and I'm at about 9/32 which is around Half-Life. What a fucking tire is all I have to say. It'll take anything you throw at it....anything....

 

1st gen rear bearings and seals always seem to draw confusion (ABS, tone rings, axle shaft bent or not, how far to press the bearing, whether or not you need a special press) plenty of people here have done them and then had to redo them. Just research and make sure the place that does it has the proper equipment to press the bearings on.

The radiator stuff I have personal experience with if you have questions.

 

Ive never read about the big lug thing but had always seen them done this way. Good to know now.

Yea been happy with mine. Haven't been monitor mileage as well as i should but plenty of tread on mine. under 10k though haha

On my bumper I lined up the bottom of the swingouts with the bottom of the tailgate with these measurements if it helps you out any.

I'm changing out the front rotors and pads next week, been due for while since it takes the truck like a whole mile to stop. Should I bother flushing and bleeding the brake fluid? I bought one of those brake bleeds at HF.

Truck has about 80,000 miles on it.

 

If the brake fluid looks "dirty" i would. Brake fluid is odd shit, but last a while usually. Its biggest thing that can happen to it over time is absorb moisture if there isn't a good seal at the cap and that can lead to a slightly softer pedal feel if not maintained. But that doesn't happen often. Usually only happens if you use old brake fluid in an unseal bottle.

 

Those are the wrong type of lug nuts for your wheels.
