Would you buy again ?

I had to read it like 4 times before I gave up on the sense and started replacing words with my own. But then I saw a picture of a seal and then words became irrelevant because seal.

 

if I was the Toyota dealer I would be asking a lot of questions, like why the owner has shreaded his rear Pinion teeth clean off and says well it just happened and I don't know How?/Why? before I put warranty work in the truck on my dime.

 

OR and mall crawl are NOT the same thing... Truck used for working towing wheeling.. and sometimes mall crawl... bet those other 2 trucks mentioned more for malls and less for trails or towing...

Take note large trucks say a tri-axle dump.. they have drum brakes... proven technology.

 

Wrong, Landcruiser has always been a true Off Road vehicle around the world. I also think the 4R had Crawl Control before the Tacoma

 

Personally I wouldn't buy it again. And it's because of 2 things in particular. The horribly weak windshield that is cracked to shit in 6 months and the terribly cheap paint job that is chipped to shit in 6 months.

I've driven these same roads in 2 different F150s and a Ford Fusion for over 10 years and none of them have had windshield and paint issues like this. Granted, I don't think it's the Tacoma in particular, I think it's a Toyota issue, and unfortunately this will be the first and last Toyota I own because of it. That being said, I don't hate the truck at all and I think it's a really great bargain, and I'm going to drive this into the grave for the next 5-6 years probably.

 

We got people giving love to drum brakes LMAO. Just when I thought the supercharger solves all talk was the most comedy on the forum...

It's a shame my friends Rubicon has discs all around. I'm gonna ask him to look in to a drum brake conversation for all 4 wheels.

The apologist nature of some on this forum never seizes to amaze me....But not as much as the fact that a loaded 2017 Tacoma doesn't have a light inside the glove box or a steering wheel that is telescoping.....yet my 2009 work van has both.

 

Cuz there's nothing wrong with drum brakes. My Jeep has Drum, my F-250 had drum, my focus had drum, etc etc

There really is nothing inherently wrong with drums, its people trying to cover for Toyota in a case of cost cutting.

 

It has nothing to do with hauling stuff it was about the fake claim of drums being better Off Road.

 

You think drum brakes are cost cutting??... I bet there's parts more metal etc in drums which requires more time to service.. add that up over 100K units it's not insignificant.

Absolutely, everything would come with drums if they were superior.

 

We do not my friend, agree to disagree. Rocks and mud can just as easily get into drums as discs.

I hate to say I would not buy again. There is a lot I love about the Tacoma but too much I don't. Mainly it's the bad engine/trans combo. I've gotten to where I just keep the ETC on and it in 4th around town cus I'm tired of cussing it my whole commute. Feels like I'm always towing a trailer in 6th.

The back seat is far too cramped and the MPGs are no where near as advertised even when driving light footed. Cabin is too loud, especially on the highway, it's like I have a back window open. My 10 year old Xterra was one of the quietest vehicles I've ever driven.

Not being negative, I just expected so much more from this truck. Especially for being almost 40K. The technology is great but everything else falls way short for a truck in 2017. Especially when I compare it to my 2006 Xterra that cost almost half the price of the Taco.

I love the looks, all the bells and whistles, the interior design, the off road capabilities, etc. I think if it had more power that might be enough to make me say yes, I would buy again. I'm just kicking myself for not getting a 4Runner.

In theory; I've never seen someone pull a drum off and have mud or rocks in them ever. They have a shit ton of carb build up from brake dust but thats about it.

That being said I can't say either brake is better than the other offroad. As you know disc brakes are mainly for heat and we dont generate enough heat offroad. To me its a moot argument.
