@Blackdawg your rear bumper isn't high clearance, correct? After removing the lining and trimming the fenders, I've got floppy sides where the bumper meets the wheel well. Anyone have any suggestions on how to stiffen this up?

Isn't this effect similar to how washboard roads are formed?

    Mine is not.

However, i do know a fix...if you still have the part.

The mud flap bracket is actually the part that holds the part of the rear fender out and keeps it stiff. I cut mine when i did 35s but kept the top section to hold be besides from doing what yours are doing.

I have no idea if your bumper would intrude on this or if you even have the attachment point anymore after cutting the bed side.

    I'll post a photo just a sec

Looking at the photos..i would guess you cut the lower attachment point off for your bumper.

You may be able to weld a small tab to the fender and use the two bolts on the bed to make a custom bracket of sorts for that.

Honestly I dont know how washboards are created, but it wouldnt surprise me to find out that its at least somewhat related to vehicles natural frequencies.

Mine have been floppy for like 3 years. I've just left well enough alone.

Where the red arrow is pointing is where the problem is. I'm not sure if the bracket would help fix that as it appears to sit below the portion of the bedside I'm describing. I'm trying to come up with something to essentially wedge between the bed and interior metal to just keep pressure pushed out. Nothing fancy, just something to stop it from flopping around all loosey-goosey.

I thought washboards were created by vehicle braking on corners or hills on dirt roads.

That's how they'll remain for now. I'd like to get something installed in the near future if possible.

This happens on 2nd gens too. My bumper has a support going back to the frame. We welds a piece of thin sheet metal to the top of the tube and then I put a piece of rubber hose on the top of it and bent it toward the fender until it applied pressure to the fender. No flopping around.

That's the ingenuity I was seeking! How much flex do you get from your rear? Does the bumper ever press up into the bedside?

Same question for you @Squeaky Penguin, as we have the same bumper essentially.

The tube that goes back to frame from the bumper has a couple of inches of clearance around it. My bumper is welded to the frame at the rear and to the side. I have never made contact with the sheet metal on the fenders.

What exactly are you asking about? My bumper never touches my bedsides, but they can move in and out an inch or less.
