Not sure which region you are located but it seems the southeast division has the best interest rate offering for the Tacoma at 2.9%.

Depending how much you are borrowing you might come out ahead with the $750 rebate if you can get them down to 2.9% and borrow $25k or less.

They were firm about my interest rate but I wasn't prequalified with a credit union. They had lousy rates in my area anyway. Finance managers are hungry for closing the finance deal through them so he might be able to get them to drop below the standard 3.9% just hope they do t came back with "you have to buy our $2000 extended warranty to get this rate" BS.

Don't those have a pretty clear cancellation / refund policy? If you're not going to get screwed on proration, get the ext warranty then come back after the paperwork settles and cancel it?

Yup that's the plan. Let the dealers know that I want to use TFS for the rebate so they'll hopefully match the CU rate. And if they don't, take the TFS rate for the rebate and refinance afterwards.

Might wait for the dealer to get their financing kickback, might not. All depends on how much of a dick they might or might not be.

Yes. But some finance managers like to play games and sit on the cancellation paperwork so they don't get a charge back for their commission.

My cousin bought a vehicle with the warranty and had to go back to the dealership three times before they eventually sent the paperwork off. Took 3 months for him to get the warranty. It's a hassle you don't want to deal with at all.

Signing the deal for my new tacoma in a couple days (they're shipping it in from another dealer at the moment). model code 7570 in MGM, which is an SR5 DCLB 4x4. MSRP was 35,083, ended up at 33,083 for a final vehicle price. Traded in my 2010 4 cylinder 5-speed SR5 access cab with 113,000 on it and got 12,000 for it. Once all the taxes and crap are figured out, im financing about 22,500 for 72 @ 2.5%. ending up with a smaller monthly payment on this truck than i had when i bought the access cab.

They had this same truck on their lot, but black with the caramel interior that they gave me a price of 32,583 for, but i couldn't get over how hideous that caramel interior was. It's been on their lot for over 100 days so they were trying to get rid of it pretty desperately.

Congrats on the new truck! I think that awful Diarrhea looking interior comes only in the Limited, it truly is ugly.

I think extended warranties are a good thing to have in theory. When I buy a new computer I tend to get a one or two year warranty if the price is right. And I have had to rely on warranties in a few occasions. And since cars nowadays have turned into computer cyborgs, it makes sense to do extended warranties and perhaps a bumper to bumper wrap warranty.

However the dealership I just bought my SR5 from, they were too greedy on their initial offers. If you sit there long enough they eventually reduce the warranty by half. Same thing with a "service plan".

What I don't understand is that all the dealerships near me do this tactic were they give you AUTO4life (another dealer calls it Priority4life...essentially "dealer name" + "4 life" = something special but not clearly defined) that comes "free with every purchase." Well ToyotaCare comes with the truck already, sooo...

The problem with some of these extended warranties is that they tend to be some third tier market policies and not Toyota Corp policies. Also if the extended warranty is like 5 years / whatever miles (whichever comes first), from what I've studied and read, will run concurrently with Toyota care. So if Toyota Care is 3 years/25,000 miles, then your only getting a two year extended warranty after Toyota Care. This seems misleading to me to call it a 5 year extended warranty when 3 of thise years are already covered by Toyota Care. Call it a two year extended warranty and charge only 2/5 of the price....that's an honest deal.

Remember that the dealership always has the advantage especially in the finance dept. The finance guys get months of training and testing on what they do and we as customers only have an hour or two to digest and understand what they had weeks or months to understand what they are selling. THEY RELY ON THE FACT THAT MORE LIKELY THAN NOT YOU WILL NOT READ ALL THE FINE PRINT. In fact they are crossing their fingers that you will not go home and study every part of the paperwork you just signed. It took me about 2-3 days to fully re-read and understand every fine print detail, read every policy pamphlet AND determine what, if anything, fits my needs.

Also, a final thought on extended warrantees: after Toyota Care expires they will send an offer to extend it through Toyota. If they forget to do it then the other 10,000 companies that offer extended warranties will pester you. So the sense of urgency to buy an extended warranty at the time of purchase at a dealership is a load of crap.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Hell, I still regularly get mailings offering an extended warranty on a vehicle I sold five years ago.

I also get calls offering up an extended warranty on "my vehicle" ... when I tell them we have three and ask which one they're referencing they get all flustered for some reason. LOL. Yes, I mess with telemarketers.

If considering an extended warranty be VERY sure your know exactly what is and is not covered. Also be VERY sure you know what is already covered without an extended warranty. e.g. 2016/2017 US Tacomas come with 60 month / 60,000 mile powertrain warranty already. Balance all that against stuff you may be changing out making warranty on those mods moot.

IMHO if planning to buy, do so as you near the end of the original warranty.

I agree 100%. In fact you underscore my point perfectly with the fact that the powertrain has it's own warranty...a warranty within the warranty...which was part of the ball of string and shit can of worms I was unpacking when considering whether or not to cancel the warranties I initially thought were a good idea.

I will give credit to my finance guy though. He told me that a full refund on warranties takes 6-8 weeks. They had it done within 4 weeks. Of course nobody lets you know this. Refunds go back to the lienholder. In my case the credit union that the dealership hooked me up with was the "lienholder". Didn't change my monthly payment amount though. Luckily the interest rates were a full 2 percentage points over what I could get on my own, so when I refinanced it was at the pre-warranty tack on price (i.e. $28K instead of $32K).

I did have to fight to get my tax back that was charged on all the extended warranty stuff. Full refund in my world includes any and all taxes on the policies as well.

So $2000 off sticker. Its a good deal if you're happy with it. I'm at $2500 off sticker but want a better deal. I might be pulling the phone call to the salesman and telling him I'm canceling the deal. $3000 off sticker would make me happy.

I was fine with 2,000 off. I always seem to be looking for the hard to find trucks, i have about 7 dealerships within a 30 minute drive of me in the Minneapolis area, and with about 300 tacomas on hand, there were only 3 that were the type i wanted, a red one (the only colors that were deal breakers to me were red and white), a black one with that caramel interior (couldnt get past that interior) and the gray one i ended up getting. with the limited supply they knew they didn't have to budge much more on the price. I felt like i got a fair deal on the price and my trade, and haggling is annoying as hell to me, so i went for it.

If they won't do $3K off, see if they'll do $1000 worth of upgrade options. Toyota seems to have a tight hold on the price of these things. Also make sure you are getting what you are paying for. My SR5 is 4 cylinder and pretty basic. When you're getting into the $33K range you are getting close to the TRD price point range.

The 29 different options/variations of Tacoma is a completely complicated ball of string to unravel...do this before you sign the paperwork.

I got what I got because my needs are simple and the 4 cylinder Tacoma has more power than my 2001 Ford Ranger 6 cylinder. I also had no interest in paying $30K or more for a truck. My Ranger was $18,000 brand new when I got it in 2001. Small sized trucks with smaller pricetags just don't exist anymore. It reminds me of when Honda's broke into the $20K price point...I thought that was a huge amount for a Honda in the mid 1990's era.

But my needs are simple and the only time I ever off roaded was in my friends Jeep. Seems like an expensive hobby and a way to break a car. Of course we were doing what was locally known as "mud daubbing" which involves driving off road in the biggest mud hole you can find at a high rate of speed.

10% off isn't unreasonable for them to give you, but I'd be surprised if anyone could get more than 10% off MSRP.
