That's a different kind of smell... Kinda like when a Grateful Dead tribute band performs at the bar where you work and some staff members are actually shocked when the bathroom gets baked out...

You can't cover up the smell with the radio, but if you have 3 more or people in the car and the stereo system is powerful enough, you can easily shift the blame elsewhere...

My dad had an E46, though it wasn't an M3. It was a black 2002 BMW 325Ci convertible, with a beige leather interior. Every option except cold weather package and limited-slip rear diff. My dad's older brother who lives in Florida was the original owner, and that's where he bought the car (he bought it off the lot; didn't order) so the lack of just those two options makes sense. It did, however, have the Harmon Kardon stereo and that was pretty damn good for a factory system.

My dad was in the Navy for 25 years, and I was 17 years old and had my learner's permit for about 6 months at the time he bought this car, and he would let me drive this at NAS Willow Grove.

If you couldn't tell by the large number of new Acuras in the background, this picture was taken at a dealership the day my dad traded the BMW for a new 2008 Acura TL.

    Another funny thing is this...

Got my learner's permit (the first time) in 2005 at age 16. My dad took me to what was then Delaware Valley College and gave me lessons in an empty parking lot. We did this I don't know how many times without a problem, then one evening some asshole campus rent-a-cop in a Jeep Cherokee tells us we can't have driving lessons there because it's private property. About 3 years later when I was actually working at Del-Val, the head of security told me it was a public campus after hearing this story and said it shouldn't have been a problem... Here's what I have to say to the asshole in the Jeep...
    :brianr:

Then, the incident at the hospital happened...

    This is still in 2006-2007...

My dad started taking me to NAS Willow Grove to give me lessons, both in the Pathfinder and his 2002 BMW 3-series convertible... I think the fact that my dad was known as a high-ranking officer and both the Pathfinder and BMW had DoD stickers on them pretty much exempted us from any kind of suspicion and we never had a problem...

At the time we got stopped in the Pathfinder in May or June 2006, only the recently purchased 2002 BMW and the 2003 S2000 he was trying to sell were registered in Pennsylvania. Within a month my dad transferred the registrations for the 1996 Pathfinder, my mom's 2004 Odyssey minivan, and his 1999 Harley FXDX from Virginia to Pennsylvania because he wanted to blend in and didn't feel like getting wrongfully lectured by a cop again if we got pulled over during another driving lesson...

The Pathfinder was registered in Pennsylvania from 1996 to 1998, and we moved to California from Pennsylvania like 2 months after buying the Pathfinder... No cop in the Bay Area ever gave a shit about it and we never got pulled over...

Moved to Virginia Beach in 1998 and got the Pathfinder registered there. Lived in Virginia Beach 1998-2000, Washington (state) 2000-2002, and Northern Virginia/DC Metro 2002-2005.

We never had any problems with having the Pathfinder registered in Virginia, even from July 2005 when we moved back to Pennsylvania until the time in 2006 when we got stopped.

My dad had every intention of keeping the Pathfinder and the Odyssey registered in Virginia until he retired so he could avoid emissions testing/safety inspection, but that one clueless cop ruined it...

My numerous driving mishaps are more well-known on TW than I'd like, but in almsot 6 years of having my license I've never gotten a ticket or even been pulled over. I must be doing something right...

That incident in 2006 was a freak occurrence, and I can still proudly say the one time I got pulled over was complete bullshit...

    OME and worth every penny.
Dodge always seemed to make a lot of their vans stick.(floor shift at that, not just 3 on tree) There were even turbo models of early Caravans.
    I like it!

And the best part is that it was possible to order a 4-cyl. turbo/5-speed Caravan (5 to 7 passenger with windows; not cargo) fully loaded with A/C, cruise, tilt, and power everything...

No, but I have mastered things like driving a 5-speed, charging a residential split-system heat pump with R410a and not allowing any refrigerant to ecape, and using a laptop with Vista, among other things, in a matter of 20 minutes. I'm sure could master the operation of a bulldozer or other heavy machinery in a matter of minutes...

Plus, this place is like an hour from my house, and I will probably go with my dad. Not only are school-age kids allowed to operate machinery in a very controlled environment, but they have an XL section for adults 18+ where you can REALLY AND TRULY try out bulldozers and loaders, and crush a car for an extra fee: https://www.diggerlandusa.com/

I didn't do that... My uncle thought I was above average for my first time, and my most significant problem was accelerating smoothly from a dead stop. The other problem is backing up smoothly, especially on the slightest of hills. I did, however, manage to back up successfully in this 2002 Saturn SL2 5-speed my dad's boss used to have solely as a no-frills commuter. This was in like September 2016, so the car was 14 years old. The red Saturn had 200K miles but it looked like a low-mileage 5-year old used car. On top of that, it had was base model with crank windows and no cruise control, but it had tilt steering, a CD player, and ICE COLD A/C. 14-year old Saturn with 200K MILES! My dad's boss put it up for sale and I wanted to buy it as a winter car, but my dad said I already have a perfectly good Tacoma (Very true) and he didn't want another car in his driveway...

You've obviously got passion about it, that's for sure. However, I have a soft spot for 80's Chrysler turbo cars so I can see why. I don't think it'll get much love on this forum though.

That's why the S2000 was my dad's last stick shift... He had a Harley for a decade after he sold the S2000 and he's still in great shape (ran a marathon last November), but he's pushing 60 and his body is telling him no more stick shifts. He is, however, the type of guy who can just hop in a stick shift and drive it like it hasn't been years... My mom is the same way, and my dad taught her in his 1983 Celica so maybe there's some connection there...

Also, I think Chrysler is the only domestic automaker that truly got the minivan right. The original Dodge and Plymouth minivans of 1984-1986 have been referred to as an answer to a question that nobody asked. The Chevy Astro and GMC Safari were GM's answer to the Chrysler minivans, and while they wound up being great vehicles in their own right, but they were more like trucks (RWD, body-on-frame, etc). Then you have the Ford Aerostar which was the same but notorious for rusting and falling apart, plus the larger engines were troublesome. Then there's GM's dustbuster minivans (1990-1996). Then you have the Ford Windbag (Windstar) which was safe and had tradition minivan styling, but had problems with rust, engine, and pretty much everything else...

The list goes on... Chrysler was the only American company to get the minivan right, and then even though the import companies built godo vans, they were still too quirky and oddly styled to be a threat to Chrysler in terms of sales figures...

@ClassifiedInfo I made a $50 shift pay +tips from the bartenders. We're talking 15 years ago here in NY. Night clubs that had 3 big bars, 11 bartenders, 3 barbacks, and the highest ringing bartender of the night would ring in $5000 at their register. Times that by the 11 bartenders and you get the idea of the NY kind of money.
A time when clubs were huge.

The slowest night I would make $300 a night. Cash

@PROseur I stopped when I started dating a bartender and focused on my road construction job. Before that I was working both jobs. The club scene eventually died and now its nothing like it used to be. I'm still with the bartender 12 years later and she moved on from those jobs also.

As far as all the BJ's and getting laid it came from the customers and other bartenders. We also had shot girls and they were always around. Some of the best times in those days.
