I love watchin curling. I feel that it is considered a sport, but they are not athletes. No way.

Is golf a sport? I think curing would be in the same catagory.

Yea golf is a sport. Pretty much anything involving competition and that can be played at the highest level of talent, skill, or expertise can be a sport.

Competitive cheerleading is dumb but it is definitely a sport. Some of what they do is very physically taxing and dangerous. Hey, if ghey ass baseball (where the ball is in play for 2.5 minutes the whole game and where fans have to stand and stretch halfway through the game to stay awake) is considered a sport than competitive cheerleading is definitely a sport, and so is curling.....unfortunately.

IMO, the only real sports are hunting (which is also dumb unless it involves hunting armed humans) and motorsports*.

    * Nascrap is not a motorsport. I'm talking real motorsports, like F1, WRC, MotoGP, Superbike, Baja, etc...

I put hunting in the same catagory as golf and curing. Heck i think hunting takes far less skills then both curing and golf.

I curl and have played baseball, and have broken more of a sweat sweeping rocks down the ice than I have running around the bases.
I'd put curling around the level of golf. You are not only playing your opponents but the course as well. And there are no easy shots in curling, even though the pros make it look easy on TV.

If you call walking on to my friends property in TX and shooting a boar hunting, then yes. It doesn’t take a lot of skills to shoot something that is just standing around. The only skill involved is waiting around and pointing the rifle straight. If you’re the type of hunter that tracks an animal for miles in the middle of the forest then I do agree that take skills. But the guys that perch themselves in a tree and wait for something to walk by is completely different.

True, but it takes skill to recognize which tree to perch yourself in.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your point of view completely. I have had those days were it was sit down for 15-20 minutes and shoot. And I have had those days of hours of tracking only to catch glimpses of the animal. It also depends on the animal you are hunting. Unless you are in a blind, hunting a Pronghorn or Mule deer can be very tricky.

How does those hunting shows portrait deer hunting? Is it pretty accurate or is it just TV? From what I can tell it’s some guy on a tree or an open field waiting/walking around until something comes by. Most of the time they do the shooting when the animal is standing still which takes no real skills other then a bit of experience in shooting a rifle. I’m not against hunting btw, I just don see the sport in it.

The tv shows are a very accurate portrait. The only "skill" they really employ is the knowledge of deer movement in that area. Deer on those shows tend to be on large tracks of private land that is managed. That being said, the deer have routines and patterns they follow in regards to feeding and rut (rut is the deer humping season).

Now hunting on the ground without a blind is a completely different thing. You have to take into account the wind more than you would in the tree. When you are on the ground, face to face, the animal has the advantage. Their senses are extremely keen and accurate.

If fat, out of shape people can do it as well as fit people, it is not a sport, it is a game/activity.

Not to belittle it. Games and activities are wonderful. I'm sure curling is fun and harder than it looks. By my above listed definition, I would have to agree many of the comparisons listed are also games or activities. Even some of my favorites like golf and the hunting/shooting sports.

You're definition is broad and ambiguous. Fat or non-fit people can play baseball, football, basketball, etc. They may not be able to do it as well, but they can and do play sports.

Of course my definition is broad and ambiguous. This whole thread is. It is asking for people's opinions.

Yes, fat people can play any sport their heart desires. More power to them for getting out and enjoying something. But at an Olympic level? I think not.

The thread isn't broad and ambiguous. The definiton of a sport is clearly defined. Everyone's opinion (which of course they are entitled to) is broad and ambiguous because they don't like the sport.
