You can call BS all you want but antifreeze mixed to 50/50 will not gel where straight 100% antifreeze will gel. The "thicker" antifreeze won't flow as well in the cooling system. Tecnically 50/50 antifreeze will freeze to a solid before say 30/70 antifreeze but until the 50/50 freezes it will have a lower viscosity (the important part). I have personaly had straight antifreeze and mixed antifreeze in -40C and you can notice the different pour rates of the two.

Also did you not notice the warning on the jug saying not to mix it more than 70%?

I thought newer Gen Tacoma's used premixed Toyota pink and not red still that needs to be mixed with 50/50?

Changing your message of 60 percent water and 40 percent coolant being superior protectant?

Also where was straight coolant or more than 70/30 ever mentioned?

Just get your facts straight and don't report "fake news". :)

Yep. So the moral of the story is, if you use generic Prestone coolant, you should change it more frequently than Toyota's book interval.
Correct. Red is "Long Life Coolant (LLC)". Pink is "Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC)".

    Example:
2002 Tacoma specified with LLC has coolant change every 60k / 4 years.
    http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om/OM35786U/xhtml/OM35786U_OM0018.html?locale=en
    http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms/MSTOY02_MS0003/xhtml/MSTOY02_MS0003f.html?locale=en

2004 Tacoma specified with SLLC has coolant change initially at 100k / 10 years, and every 50k / 5 years thereafter.
    http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM35814U/xhtml/OM35814U.html?locale=en
    http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/docu...MS0017/xhtml/MSTOYALL04_MS0017.html?locale=en

Note both are 1st gen Tacos with the same cooling system. The increased interval is made possible by coolant formulation.

I have a friend who is a retired doctor. He always replies to certain comments with "what scientific proof can you show me"? I have to refer to his wisdom on this one.

"Long life, super long life", it's all an advertising gimmick. Coolant replacement is not something you want to extend as long as possible. Unless you intend to trade in before too many years or miles accumulate and beware sucker buyer.

Just look at all the posts about clogged heater cores and radiators.

I switched it to 50/50 because that was what was on the bottle. Some manufactures do have a mixing ratio of 60/40. Look at your jug closely and I'm sure you will discover the precaution of mixing it over 70% but then again you did vote Trump so I suspect you don't inspect things that closely.

    Another fake news reporter.

Show me the mention of over 70% mix?

    Good grief, get a life.

Not sure why you quoted my post on 100 vs. 50-50 or some such ratio. I did not reference any mix ratio in my post. But if I were to, I shoot for between 50 and 60 mix as I am more concerned with hot temp than cold.

As I posted my message, Toyota's recommended interval went from 4 years with LLC to 10 years with SLLC. The cooling system hasn't changed between 2002 and 2004, so the only difference is in the coolant formulation. Now, if you don't trust Toyota's recommended interval, that's a different story.
Fewer of these on 2nd gens.

Ok, so my 05 4x4 double cab, had 189k on it with the factory coolant, it would still have that coolant in it if a F250 didn't hit it parked doing 75mph.
Why do you change the coolant ?
