Yes, you are at risk. If enough peeps don't volunteer and the flight is still oversold once the day to fly arrives they (Delta) will do denied boardings.

I've only recently started flying as a revenue passenger but, I almost ALWAYS take the travel voucher. I recently flew UA FRA-IAD-IND and the IAD-IND leg was oversold, so I grabbed the $400 UA offered to take the next flight (one hour later), turned out the flight that was oversold took a mechanical and we pushed out just before they did...only I had a "free" $400 voucher.

I normally would have no issue taking the travel voucher, but based on other travel plans I can't go the day early and with only 5 days in Italy I don't want to go a day late. Delta only operates one daily flight to New York and it's on an RJ

I hear ya and it blows. I've heard lots of legs overselling by 40%+ because "no shows" and airlines trying to sell the (commodity) seat. All of a sudden when people show up it's a problem.

I understand the reasoning behind it and it wouldn't be an issue of they operated multiple flights on the same route, I have a 4.5 hour layover so could easily take a later flight. Both of these operate 1x daily so if you miss it you're hosed

After further research it appears to be the JFK-MXP flight, however you can still get a ticket on that one as well. It'll cost you $7600 though

There was a time airlines would upgrade a y class pax to f before not boarding an oversold class, not sure anymore.

My fare class is T, but they are showing 7 Delta One (first) seats available. If only I had my dad's status I'd be flying in style

Sure, I've heard horror stories of planes going out with open first, business ect with y class tix being denied boarding. To me it's just bad business man.

I had it on a British Airway, LHR-ATH leg a few years back. Was traveling with family and several got booted from coach even tho business was open. For whatever reason, I ended up getting upgraded (maybe because industry) but, there were people who didn't make it on the aircraft. My family made it but the seat next to me was unoccupied and they would not let anyone sit next to me. Coach was full.

That's horrible business but I'm not surprised. You'd think they would take the highest status passengers from coach and upgrade them in order to make everybody happy

And they may now, of course that was not a US carrier or on a flight operated in North America...so who knows.

That might have played a part in it. I'd be shocked if something like that happened here, though the people that didn't make the plane would be none the wiser
