Leaking Front Diff.

Found a spot of oil in the driveway yesterday morning. Looked underneath when I got home from work to see where it was coming from and it looked like it was coming from both sides of the front diff where the CV axles go in. Called my service advisor today and made an appointment for tomorrow morning. When I told him where I though it was leaking from he said that they have had a few in with the same problem. We will see how things go tomorrow.

 

Sounds like front axle seals.

 

Well, they repaced the seal on the drivers side of the front diff. When i looked at the paperwork it is a $9 part. I asked about the other side and they said it wasn't leaking so they couldn't fix it. I go to leave the house this morning and my girlfriend asks me if that spot under my truck is still the one from the other day. Of course it wasn't. I called and I get to take my truck back to them tomorrow.

 

lol... sorry for your troubles here. If I were you I would probably talk down to the service writer who did half of a job with the heaviest of nice sarcasm.

hmmm not sure that makes much since after I read it back..... Be a dick in a nice way.

Maybe you can politely suggest they owe you an oil change or something

 

^ probable the better route to take. I just get mad as hell when people cut corners like this.

 

I had them do the oil change since it was a few miles overdue yesterday and they already had the truck. They got rid of their detail department or I would suggest they wash and buff my truck.

 

Out of curiosity how much lift you have ? Do you Have differential drop?

 

I have a 2" Ready Lift Leveling Kit spacer in the front. No diff drop

 

They replaced the seal on the other side of the diff. They also noticed that the front crank seal was starting to leak so they replaced it. Now I have a leak near the back of the transmission or the transfer case (been too lazy to crawl under and look). You would think that since they spent time under the truck for oil leaks they would have looked under the truck for other problems. The only thing they tried to get me to do was have them change the brake pads for $180 dollars. Said that job needed over $100 in labor which is over an hours time.

 

Back from being at the dealership for the 4th time in 2 weeks dealing with the leaking issues. The steering rack is leaking as well as the seal on the transfer case for the front driveshaft. They also noted that there was coolant crust around the weep hole on the water pump. Of course they didn't have the parts in for the steering pump or the tansfer case so I get to go back next week. The service guy did say that the warranty people might want to bring an adjuster to look at everything so I need to wash my truck.

I did run my truck hard for the last 3 months in the woods. It seemed like it rained every week so the roads stayed sloppy. Lots of time in 4wd. I have done worse before and everything held up fine.

 

Are they giving you any hassles for the lift?

 

No trouble at all about the lift. There was actually a long travel tacoma there for service as well.
