What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

FWIW, all 1st gen e-locker rears are set up for ABS even if the truck is non ABS.

 

I have ABS so no block off plates but my ABS is disabled. Plan on ripping that shit out eventually so next time I have the rear wheel bearing go out on me I plan on just installing the two retainers and no tone ring since the tone ring doesn't necessarily even show proper fitment anyway. Really wish I had a non ABS rear. When I go tundy, I will look for a non ABS rear.

are the rear axle seals the same parts between abs and non-abs rear ends? a buddy made a axle seal install tool for abs rear end and wondering if it would also work for a non-abs axle

 

The seal on the non-abs axle is right at the end of the housing, you don't really need a tool to install it. Just push it in place evenly, make sure it doesn't get cocked as it goes in.
Edit: yes the seals are the same part.

i did mine last month and i did use a block of wood i had sitting around in the garage, just tapped it in carefully and slowly. it was a bit stressful getting it in evenly and after all the horror stories ive read of people having leaks after brand new seals made me think it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a better fitting installing tool if i ever had to do it again so i was just curious

 

Do you guys think skinning the stock gas tank skid in 1/8" would be enough? Mine is for the most part solid, want to strip it and weld a plate to it, and paint it to keep it from getting any worse.

 

Did not know this, but that explains why I saw the tone rings on my non-ABS e-locker rear when I regeared.

I have a question about Key-less entry... My 01 has factory power locks and the factory security thing but the dealer says it didn't come with a remote to lock/unlock the doors. I have been getting mixed answers as to whether or not my truck has the factory receiver for a remote or not. The service manager as one of the local dealers told me that the receiver didn't automatically come with the security system until 02 but others have said its all there and I just need a remote. Short of buying a remote and trying to program it I'm not sure how to verify it. If I don't have a receiver I might as well get an aftermarket remote start/alarm. Anybody know how I can verify one way or the other?

 

I just got some LED light bar brackets and it came with self taping screws. Was wondering if I can use other hardware. And what you guys have used? Links would helps.
