I wasn't prepared to actually purchase when I went to the dealer. I'm still saving up for my down payment. I just wanted to talk to someone. I wouldn't have made such a quick decision if I was ready to sign on the dotted line :)

Damn!! That sucks. The JBL sound was amazing and I loved the push to start lol. Oh well, I'll still get the MT and can just do aftermarket speakers if I want.

I think the reason for the MTs still using the key is to use the Clutch Cancel switch as designed.

I live in the states. Kentucky specifically.

So I believe I'll be able to order the MT with tech package. once I get my local dealer to stop being such a douche

Dealer has a set allocation of trucks coming in. Some options can be pre-configured based on your desires. Don't tell dealer you want it built because that's not necessarily the most accurate vernacular. Tell them you want to put a refundable deposit down on one they have coming in on dealer allocation. Negotiate the OTD price based on those options. Also if you get with someone who knows what they're doing at the dealership like a competent sales manager for instance, they can search regional allocations and they can offer to dealer trade with a nearby dealer to get you what you want sooner. So you're not necessarily stuck waiting solely for what that dealer has coming in on allocation

Yeah as Smitty said, if you do not have your heart set on a particular color or something else specific besides the P&T then your Dealer should be able to find an existing one to do a trade for.

When I was in last night I believe that's what he was doing. He searched within a 500mile radius for TRD sport DCSB with tech package and MT. Didn't find any, so that's when he told me it's not possible. Doesn't this mean that I'd have to get one built?

When I "ordered" mine they just found a unit that was allocated to the region. I had to wait 3 months but that way I got exactly what I wanted.

So from what I'm gathering, I need to be specific with my language and not 'demand' one built for me. Just state the exact options and color that I want and ask them to get it for me regardless of how long it will take.

I think the dealer is being dishonest, I was just doing a truck search on Cars.com or Edmunds or something just last night and it was littered with Sport Manuals.

Yep, that's understood. And I've sorta accepted it. But I still contest that this is simply bad design. Toyota could have come up with something and still given us the push button, if they let their engineers spend an extra 30 seconds on the problem.

Turning a key to bump the starter is a neat feature, but functionally I don't see any benefit to this over pushing a button.

Toyota doesn't "build" custom orders but you can take what a dealer already has Allocated (scheduled/coming in) and you can have them preconfigure some of the factory options on it, based on the trim/model of the vehicle on allocation. If you tell them you want a Tacoma built they might tell you they don't do that, which technically it is true but they're arguing semantics. Just trying to arm you with a little knowledge so when you go and talk to them, they know you're not just full of shit.

To each their own, but you can add heated seats later for less than $200 in aftermarket parts. If you are tall, there are many complaints about the sunroof because it eats up significant head room. Also, there have been several complaints about the automatic climate control knobs and functionality.

The reason they can't do a Push button start on a manual tacoma is because of the clutch cancel button. A push button start is programmed to crank the starter for a set period of time or until the motor fires. If you have the clutch cancel engaged and your wanting to use that feature to crawl up an obstacle, it could be dangerous because once you hit the button, your going to crawl for 5 seconds or whatever the programmed time is for the PBS. With a key you have more control of how much you want to crank the motor or crawl up the obstacle. Make sense?

Well fuck. I have to look up the stuff you mentioned to make my own decision but it's good to know upfront.

I'm 6'2" which isn't super tall so I don't imagine headroom would be an issue
