Oil Refinery Operator. Boiler to be exact. Just got off the phone with my board Operator, Silica levels in the boiler are at 3 times our max limit. Have been anywhere from just over, to three times max limit for the past 2 months. Chemical vendor has been spewing bullshit at us the entire time. We're wondering when we need to shut down before everything gums up.

 

I'm working on a case of beer on my first night off.

Nope. I'm in the most liberal county in America, also the most EPA minded in America. We get fined if someone SMELLS a whiff of anything past our fences, let alone see's anything.

That's gotta be tough. Check out Beaumont Tx. I think we have the largest reserve in the nation here and everyone is pretty cool with that.

 

If I hadn't got this job, I was seriously considering moving to texas to check the plants out there. That plus get away from CA.
What's funny is the plant across the river from us is in a different county...I see them flaring alllllllll the time and they give zero fucks.

 

I would love to get back to Texas! Born and raised. Couldnt find anything after the navy that paid as well out there though

 

They burn off pretty big over here too but from what I understand it's either that or blow the fuck up. Sounds like your plant is venting just not advertising so the lib community doesn't take offense. Little do they know by burning over half the threat is gone. Inhale the fumes but no smoking allowed.

Actually, We basically just run alot more economically and have extra systems in place to send the extra product to other units if need be instead of venting. It costs more to have all that in place, but it allows us to stay in Cali.

 

Trust me, they have groups out here that run around the refinery with sniffers checking for any venting or shit like that, and all kinds of IR cameras and shit pointed at the refinery just begging for anything extra to pop up so they can shut us down.

 

At least they'll have plenty of water to keep things cool for a while now.
