I thank the truck gods everyday that I chose the 4 cyl 5 spd. I just think that a v6 made for fuel economy tied to a auto trans made for fuel economy is going to have driveability issues in a truck. I can't help but believe that the kinda sorta atkinson cycle v6 mated with the auto is not compatible with some folks driving style. Maybe a CVT built heavy enough for a truck application would be a much better match with that engine. Like the OP I'd be pissed to have a truck I didn't like (I was, got rid of it and bought this one) and I'd be really pissed if I payed a butt load of money for it. I hope he finds peace.

    Good for you.

Lots of evidence of that on TW.

No brother, just no. But hey, the 6MT works pretty good!

My 2016 V6 AT 4wd, has always been very smooth on/off throttle, shifting etc. Once I got the first trans TSB done. most of my other complaints about drivability are gone. However, my advice (to the OP) is to ask the service manager or one of the senior techs to drive it with you. If its as bad as you say, they'll notice, and if they say "they all do that", then ask to go for a drive in a new V6 AT off the lot. In my experience, service writers and service managers don't want to be told what the root-cause problem or fix is. So don't talk about ATF fluid, u-joint zerks, u-bolts, etc. Focus on the problem SYMPTOM, and set clear expectations that they need to fix it. If they can't, then they should escalate with Toyota. I know, easier said than done. By the way, I was at my dealership yesterday for scheduled service, and I overheard the service manager on the phone with a customer saying "Let's not focus on what you read on the Internet, we want to figure out what's going on with your Camry". Of course, I'll also mention that for the 2nd out of three times at this shop, the service writer asked me if my truck was a V6. If it happens again, I'll say "No, its a rare special order 4 cylinder TRD OffRoad" and see what his reaction is.

That's a normal characteristic of driving a manual transmission, they all do that if you let off the gas too quickly in a low gear.

I got two words. Manual Transmission. 18k on my truck in 10 months and ZERO issues.

EDIT: Have had regular maintenance through my Toyota dealership and they treat me like a king. I asked them to do what I want them and I tell them I'm going to check and guess what? They do it.

It happens in 6th as well, i dont think it is purely due to the M/T.

Yeah my truck bucks a lot in 4WD-LO off road, but usually when I hit the gas hard.. boom bucking Bronco... we are off... dog wags tail, wife grabs A pillar handle... dog slobbers a little if we are really bucking.... perfectly normal characteristic of vehicle.

Honestly aside from the gears jumping from 2200 rpm to 3100 rpm going from 65 to 70 mph, i have no complains. After reading this post I started to freak out and think about issues and how i payed $42,000 for it lol

I wonder if the crummy factory leaf springs exaggerate the jerky shifting.
