camper shell power suply

I just got a new camper shell and im wanting to put a seperate battery in the back and hook a few lights inside the shell and mabey a aerator for a livewell. not real sure what an inverter is, but being able to plug in regular plug would be nice. Not an electrician by any stretch so i was hoping to get some input from you guys. Thanks for any input!

 

An inverter is one of these thingys:


They come in various sizes and shapes, and in a nutshell, changes the DC power coming from your truck, to AC power, that a regular plug in would use. If you found the right wattage (I'm not sure, I'm no electrician by far) for your application, it would work for you.

There's a guy on here who made an AMAZING aux power setup in his truck. No inverter, but sick setup with auxiliary deep cycle backup and relay to allow it to charge while driving but not discharge the car's battery when not driving, and so on. He did a really good write up with lots of pics that would probably help a lot. I wish I could remember his name, but you might be able to search around for that thread. I'll try to look when I have some time and if I find it I'll post. If you find it, post the thread link in this one. It's a black taco with a shell with windoors and a sick camping setup in back that includes the whole aux power deal. I hope one of us finds it.

If you have trailer wiring like I do, you could get the trailer plug in and just run power from that.

 

Thanks Rustyota! That is exactly what i am looking for, it just looks a little difficult for my abilities! The part where he tied it into the trucks main battery was cool, but i have a charger so thats not so important. Is it possible to straight wire a few map lights and a domelight with some switches and an inverter right to the second battery? I know this could get really indepth, but im lookin for a basic setup right now. Thanks for all the input so far!
