Currently deployed but once I return I would like to get my gears done... about 99% sure im going to go with the 4.88 nitro gear set up but not being that mechanically inclined when it comes to regearing im looking for a reputable shop to conduct the install and then the check up after break in/warranty etc... my worries going to just any old shop is once the gears are in and if the shop doesn't include the break in inspection/install and damage the new gears will they be standing behind their work or will I be stuck with $3k for worthless gearing... im stationed at Travis AFB and would like to try and keep the distance minimal as I would have to drive it back for the gearing inspection or if something goes wrong and it has to be flat bedded to the shop... any suggestions on shops would be greatly appreciated!

I heard good things from Rearend Specialties in San Jose. The only issue are their hours and they aren't open on the weekends so dropping and picking up my truck will require some thought.

I'm looking into redoing my gears too but probably 4.56

Get assembled thirds fromECGS. They are the best in the business. Great customer service. They also have a 5yr warranty.
Swapping the rear is easy. The front is more of a pain in the ass to do. With some help, it's not bad.
Get some beer, food and beer and I'm sure you could entice some locals to help.

I'm a 2016 sport... not sure ECGS would work for me... plus after install labor and possibly not having the shop warranty due to the gears not being done by them is a little worrisome for me...

I was going to go with 4.56 but nitro doesn't make them for the new 3gen tacos... and it can't really hurt especially since I may go 35's someday but it should be more than enough for the 33's and then some

im still new to the whole gearing thing... so if I just got the rear done in lets say 4.56/4.88 would I have to re-do the front gearing as well? basically im wanting to re-gear to accommodate the 33" tires and the added weight from bumpers, skid plates, camper shell etc... I was told its not necessary but would like to think of it as a long term protection for the drivetrain and figured it can't hurt the truck...

    stuff
I had Shaffers Off-road in Alameda install the ring and pinion in my third. Went ecgs for clamshell. Would have ordered complete but I already has ARB locker. Mike (Shaffer) is a stand up dude. They def stand behind their work. I had chased the fill plug threads when I reinstalled the third. Some remnants of the threads I chased were in the oil at the 500 break in change. Even though he could tell it wasn't gear or bearing material, he told me to drive it like normal, and bring back in another 500-1000 miles and they'd drain the diff oil and check it.

I know alamedas pretty far from Fairfield, but I'd give these guys 5 stars for sure. Love to see a company that stands behind their work!

You have to regear both to match, correct? You shouldn't just do rear and not front on 4wd, correct?
