Why would you put 91 in it? Does it call for 91? Putting higher octane in than what is called for is actually bad for the engine.

 

I was on the fence on letters in or out. Glad I went out!

Actually bad for your engine? Lol on the cotrary it is bad for your engine to use lesser octane then required it is certainly not bad to use higher then required. And there are many people who have had better fuel mileage with 89 and up. You are 100 percent not corect.

You are partially right though. I suppose it won't damage your engine. Just make it less efficient. Your engine was designed to run regular. You will not receive any gains from delaying the ignition point of your fuel. You will just spend more for gas. If you are experiencing detonation running regular, you have a problem and running 91 is only a bandaid.

I think the question is do u. Ive been in the automotive industry my whole life. Octane is the measurement of when fuel detinates at a particular compression. Thats wjy using a lower then aproved octane is dangerouse not using higher. The manufacturer gives you a minimum octane rating to use not a maximum. So toyota says do not use less then 87 octane.

Worst case scenario is you’ve just wasted some money by buying the more expensive fuel. However If you put the lower octane fuel in an engine which specifies high octane fuel, will not cause you any major issues on an electronic fuel injected engine because it has a device known as a “knock sensor” which will pull timing.
