Rhino liner / linex in new truck?

The frame. Bed is composite/plastic. No metal.

 

There is nothing under it. The plastic shell is the bed. On the sides its the plastic shell, air space then the outer bedsides.

Don't believe us that's fine but Tacoma's have used composite beds for awhile now. Look it up..

I had no idea they were composite. I thought it was a bed liner. WTF. The GM twins have real beds.. And I vaguely remember a shit show of a thread bashing the f150 aluminum bed and no one mentioned the taco having a plastic bed.

So if I undid the bolts holding it down it would pop out like a bathtub and I would see the frame?

 

There's a little more to it than that but yea. They are actually pretty tuff. Bed stiffeners at the tailgate are a good idea especially if you haul a lot.

 

They are pretty strong to begin with. My grandpa beats the crap out of his composite bed and it is fine. Scuffed yes but still structurally sound. I guess the benefit is you don't have to worry about rust.

 

Leave it as is, it already has the plastic liner. You're not scuffing up any body parts.

 

So... OEM, rhino liner, or nothing at all??? Everyone give me their vote lol

 

If you were going to do it eventually, I would just do it now. If I had the money I would get it done. I would just make sure the place I took it too has done them before on that type of bed.

 

Rhino, do it now, if it fades or peels its covered under warranty. Line x here offers 15 year warranty on peels etc and lifetime on fade/color. You have nothing to lose by doing it early if u have the money. Otherwise do it once the bed starts scraping up... which in my experiance does not take long.

 

Is rhino the same as line-x? How much do they charge near you?

 

Im in canada so alot lol, i think about 7-800 depending on bed size. Line x is the most reputable, and great reveiws.

 

Get a bed mat first and see if that is enough... it only costs $80. There's guys on here that have used the same bed liner on several iterations of Tacos.... still going strong..

 

That sounds pretty logical over $600 I'm getting quoted from local linex shops

 

If you remove the bed from the frame and remove the fenders, it will look like a bathtub. If you crawl under the truck and look up, you will see the bottom of the bed and see that it's plastic. It crazy for me the first time I learned this too.

I do think you should wait and see how bad it gets. I think as long as you're not just throwing stuff carelessly into the bed you'll be fine. If it gets bad you can just get it lined, it's going to have to be sanded down anyways in order for the stuff to be sprayed in. Also, there's drainage holes at the front of the bed and those might get sprayed over and closed up during the process. Plus I think the stock bed is pretty easy to clean. I vote no liner, and to consider the bed mat first.

 

Bed mat sorry to confuse ... stock bed liner - look at it and its scratched .... lipstick on a pig AND $600.. pass! Prolly better money spent on having the frame/undercarriage sprayed with fluid film.
