Tires/Wheels or Lift first?

Im on a budget so things are going slow. I use my 16 DCLB OR as my DD and road tripper. I also desire some rake since I will use the truck as a truck on occasion. I originally was thinking about lifting first using 5100/887/3AAL and sticking with the stock tire/wheel combo. Now Im wondering if the stock tires on the lift would look to small. Is there anyone out there that lifted first? Future tire size i plan on staying conservative at no bigger than 265/70/17. Or just stay with the stock height and go tires first. What ya say?

I'm in the same boat, slow build budget. I'm definitely planning to get a lift first and then get wheels and tires. I want no (or minimal...) issues with rubbing when I get new tires.

 

I know the 265/70/17 wont rub on the stock height for sure. My daughters BF is running those on his 16 OR. Which Ive already done the big lifted truck thing now something more moderate seems more appealing.

 

if you are eventually going to do both, go for the lift first. Once it's lifted, you will have a much better sense of what size wheels and tires to go with to suit the lift. Yeah, it might look a bit odd for a while with stock wheels and tires with a lift, but at least you won't get the wrong size tires, and have to upgrade AGAIN after it's lifted.

If you know you're sticking with 265/70/17 you can go with tires first. If you aren't sure then do the lift first.

 

I went wheels and tires first because I couldn't stand the sight of the stock OR wheels. Absolutely hideous. They had to go ASAP.

 

No way in hell I personally would go larger than 265 70 17 just based on how piss poor this drivetrain has been. She's already a dog and shift happy. Imagine what another 100 lbs of rotational mass and another 2 or 3 inches in tire diameter would do to this thing.

 

@Midknight, if you dont mind what lift are you running just to get an idea. Thanks, your truck really doesn't look like the tire/wheel combo is to small. On second thought , maybe my daughters BF is running 75 not 70.

 

You can't put 275s or bigger on without a lift. Lift first, tires later. But there may be a time when your stock tires look small. If you stay in the 265/70/17 range, you can do tires first, then lift.

I dont think they are hideous but I do plan on derping going for a slight gunmetal. They look better that way. My truck is Super White btw.

It's the Toytec Boss 2.0 kit with remote reservoir in the back, light racing UCA and AAL.

 

They're the worst OEM wheels I've seen in a very long time. My thought was I couldn't justify spending money on new wheels to take the non-aggressive looking tires from the OEM wheels for the aftermarkets, I just did the whole combo. That way, I also still have a full set of complete stockers to sell or keep as spares. I'm happy for now and don't want to stab my eyes out every time I see the truck lol.

If you're on a budget, I'd suggest you double up payments to get it paid off before you go dumping 1000s of dollars into it. But that's just me.

 

I put a butt load down on the truck. Really not to worried about this. I wont be putting thousands in it. The lift is around $740ish. Tires/wheels around $1100. When I say budget, I mean priorities. Mine then the wife's. Two different things....lol

If it was me and what I will probably do is sell the OEM wheels and put that money towards new. For some reason 2nd gen guys like these wheels.

 

Same situation here. Going slow. I've already decided on a modest lift with 265/70 17 so I just ordered my Sema pro wheels yesterday. Still trying to decide on tires but yeah..Im doing wheels/tires and then lift.

 

Kinda like having spare parts just in case ya know?
