I have had these issues. Lemon laws take time, but Toyota will argue the characteristics of their vehicle. Toyota might not take the truck back. Some people have had luck and others haven't. A lot of people are unhappy, me included. I feel a class action lawsuit is probably the best way. Just imagine all the calls on this model alone. I think Toyota service centers probably hate seeing one of these trucks pull in. Don't you think it would be easier to just replace the trucks, their losing money and costumers at this rate. Plus Toyota lots have a lot of tacomas in stock all AT.

are you saying you are still experiencing the problem or is the gas solving it for you?

I am 3/4 of a tank into my 2nd tank of 93 E10, this is after running two tanks of 91 E0. It appears the miss has returned, very slightly though. Next up is 2 tanks of 89 E10. I have a feeling now it is an ethanol issue, not an octane issue.

How does that affect the transmission? or do you think it is an engine problem?

The miss is an engine tune issue, not transmission. Two different issues. IMO, the powertrain in this truck just downright sucks.

I honestly do not have an issue with the powertrain as I got used to it and I know how to get it up and go if I need it to. I am getting good gas mileage and really do love the truck, I just need this problem fixed as it is a problem that will not make me keep the truck if it can not get fixed.

So I'm 500 miles post REV 1 update. My truck is slumping back to its former self. I thought 89 octane helped the miss feeling. However, I just burned a tank of 87 and it's as present as ever. Seems to happen most at low RPM/feathering throttle situations. Ya know like when the truck is in 5th gear at 35mph!! I'm going to fill up with 89 non ethanol tonight. I'll report back soon.

Who wants to bet that it will go away mid-tank of 89 E0?

    I think my local 89 E0 is running $2.80. Normal 87 is $2.15.

Thought I saw somewhere that the Lexus version of our engine required higher octane. Anyone else see this? However, I know they are 2 different vehicles/tunings etc.....

Sadly though, I don't think this is an octane issue. I am leaning towards it being an ethanol issue. It went away in my truck during two tanks of 91 E0. Followed that up with 93 E10 and it slowly started to come back (the miss). Running 89 E10 at the moment. I will drive my truck tomorrow and report back.

Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.
In my case the miss seems to be much reduced (not nearly as common or severe) if I use 93 labeled as up to 10% EtOH. It is annoying as hell with 87 (again up to 10%).

Have a regional tech coming tomorrow morning to ride with me in my vehicle and one off of the lot. This is the 2nd time riding with him and he felt the jerking sensation the first time out. We did not compare vehicles last time. Over the past weekend I was able to drive another Tacoma which was the same model and it did not have the jerking feeling and I drove that for 100 miles. I will update this after we find out what is wrong with the truck (if they find anything at all).

Well, not good news to report. Went to the dealership this morning, drove my truck first with the regional tech and the service manager, we all felt the slight miss that everyone is discussing here. Drove one of their Off roads they had on the lot and to my surprise, it drove worse than mine did!!!!. Characteristic of the vehicle is what the conclusion is. Now this may be the case but it is obviously not in all the trucks as I explained to them that the truck at the other dealership drove like a dream. Corporate also happened to call me this evening and I explained what happened. I told them that even though the issue might be in some trucks, it is still an issue and people are not happy about it ( I was very polite the entire time as I just want a remedy to the problem). I asked them if they were working on a fix for the problem and corporate could not confirm that for me. My fear is that I get rid of the truck and the TSB or flash comes out the following week. So for everyone experiencing this issue, it is either a cross your fingers and hope and wait for a fix, drive it as is, or get rid of it for another one or something else. I think I will try the higher octane one more time and if that does not provide a remedy for the time being, I am going to have it sit in the driveway until either the fix comes out or I trade it in. I love the truck and not a hater by any means, as I am sure most of you feel the same way, I just cannot drive the truck and feel the jerking sensation knowing that I paid a hefty price for it, gets me heated for sure. Good luck to the rest of you.

Run two tanks of E0 and your issue goes away.

Drive somewhere else and find some. As of right now, seems to be the only fix.
