I didn't own a 2nd gen so I can't personally comment, but it seems like I see this a lot "same mpg as 2nd gen". It's hard for me to understand why they changed so much with these trucks for very little gain.

It's hard to believe that toyota with all its resources and talented people would have done this without a reason? Does anyone with a previous 2nd gen see a big difference?

I get on a avg.tank 24 mpg it all depends how you are on the throttle, and if there is a lot of hills your milage will not be as good, today I got 25.1 on my way to work (43 miles) ;-) Not bad.. used to get 17 with my old ridgeline!

Couldn't agree more with this statement. The let down for a powertrain for little gain is disappointing

Wanted to see if anyone responds. I haven't even checked my ratio yet. I assume 3.15 since on 35's, I run 90mph at 2300rpm. Mileage, 19 stock, 17.6 currently. If I add a quart of mineral spirits on a full tank, 20mpg.

I realize if I have a long straight or green lights is to floor it then coast. If I just be gentle and maintain speed, I get about 12 mpg. If floor it when the road is open and then coast I get about 17 mpg. Call me crazy or call me maybe.

My TRD OR 4x4 is completely stock. Even if I baby the shit out of it I can only get about 22mpg on flat freeway doing 65mph. Over 22k miles and overall getting 19mpg. I commute 15 miles of flat freeway (65mph) each way to work every day.

My last 10 fill ups average 21.6mpg. Not too bad for winter driving.

It has been pretty warm for this current tank, and I'm at about 24.5mpg ... 130 miles in. My 10 tank average was upper 23's before the cold weather, it'll be nice to get back up there.

4 tanks in the 19mpg range (long hwy trips through mountains at 75+ mph in 20F weather), 2 in the 26mpg range (60-65 mph, mostly hwy in 70F weather).

Overall, 46 fill ups averaging 22.5mpg dating back to early Oct '16.

Mine is the same as yours (OR 4x4 (+tonneau)). It takes power to push this truck 65 mph; so, no Atkinson. Warm, mine gets ~23 mpg at 65; but, it takes the length of your commute to fully warm everything up. Slow to 60 and you'll get ~2.25 mpg better; 55 is + ~4.5 mpg, 50 / + ~6.75, 45 / +~9.

I'm at 25.1 mpg ('puter) 450+ miles into current tank (my fuelly number is about to go up ~0.2-0.3)... My smaller/lighter 2002 would be <20 mpg... That's impressive to me.

Yeah so when people are saying they're driving 75mph and getting 22mpg+ I'm scratching my head

I can get 25 mpg at 75mph on the way TO work. But, on the way back I get 20 ...

People don't like to tell the whole story.

500ft elevation at home, -50ft at work ... 67 mile trip.

Often times it's not about the MPG, but the emissions.

My normal daily commute is about 2.25 miles (combined) - all stop and go on suburban streets. Overall avreage MPG was 16.5 on Sunday. On Monday, I took my AT/V-6 DCSB on its first road trip (~300 miles from Philly to Norfolk, VA, straight down through Delaware, MD, then VA). According to the computer, my tank average was 25.4, but by my calculations, it was 24.9. The overall average MPG is now at 21.6.

I love having the "instant MPG" display. Using that, I found that there's a significant loss in MPG when you from 60 to 65 MPH and that judicious use of the cruise control is the ticket to consistency. I'm doing another long drive in July to Roanoke, VA, and expect even better numbers there since that's pretty much ALL highway (PA turnpike & I-81).

In an OR 4x4, 75 mph looks like it might be around 19 mpg (or less); but, I don't do a lot of hwy.

The sweet spot for mpg in this truck is a consistent 45mph.

Just tell me how often you drive a steady 45mph? At highway speeds I get shit mileage. In town I get worse mileage. I guess I need to start driving the minimum speed on the interstate and maybe I'll get decent mpgs.

Sidenote: I don't care about mpgs too much, but it is pretty annoying to see full-size pickups with v8's get the same or better gas mileage than my Tacoma. A guy I work with has an 8 year old Sierra that gets better mpg than my 1 year old midsize Toyota with its vaunted attkinson v6.

It's funny that this is now an irritant to me when it otherwise wouldn't be...If the rest of the truck didn't have problems like howling, buzzing, vibrating, lurching, etx I wouldn't give two shits. It literally works out to an extra $50 a year if I get an mpg or two less than I should. But when you basically stuck us with this drivetrain for efficiency, emmisions, and mpgs, I start to have a problem with it.

Yeah, like most vehicles the best mileage is achieved at the lowest speed that uses the highest gear. Mine goes into 6th at around 42 mph where it gets ~33 mpg. With the benefit of the "Atkinson" I suspect the absolute best mileage will be at the slowest 5th gear speed of ~32 mph (maybe around 37 mpg?)... but like you say... how often do you go 32 mph?

Yes I use a fuel app on my phone and I am a stickler on keeping it. On my SR I am getting 18.5 average mpg's that's ALWAYS having a load on it. My off road dcsb all stock is getting 19.5mpg

I'm getting 15.6 mpg in city with a 2017 stock TRD Pro. I also drive like a grandma and i'm really light on acceleration, on the highway i'm getting 20 mpg at 75mph.
