@Don5352 and I will come up with a meet location and time. TBA (I'm thinking the Starbucks right off the sly park exit off 50 around 8-9ish).

You guys anticipating an Indian attack? Wagons circled. Or just a circle jerk?

Kidding aside, looks like a great spot.

Is the MET open on the HWY 88 side? Or is there a gate? I've never driven this road and 88 is a lot closer to where I live...

Never mind just googled it. Road is closed until the snow melts. So is there no gate on the hwy 50 end?

No gate at the Sly Park end, but there is a closed, seasonal gate at the top, a few miles from hwy 88.

Unfortunately it looks like if you're going to join us you gotta come down and around. There's no gate on the sly park side, just road closed signs

By the definition of Newbie on this site, I am one. Stock ride.

I've owned 7 toyota 4×4s, have overloaded and hard trails on and off for for 30 years, taking months long trips into Mexico/Baja exploring everywhere and everything. And I'll happily join the newbies, and anyone on here for adventures! I'll see you all out there my fellow newbies.

I'm terrible at finding details on this thread..

What is MET? (I'm not from here, searched the thread already)

Looking to do some rain camping anywhere where there are redwood trees this weekend. Last weekend went North of Jenner, totally energized me for the entire week. Whoever is down to do some camping, cooking, get dirty, have some beers and a fire, I'll be doing this on most weekends, hit me up -

MET is Mormon Emigrant Trail. It's basically an unplowed road in the winter. Makes for great snow wheeling

See a lot of people up there? I was googling around and the Pirates page said it can get crowded, parking lot status.

    Edit- I mean the MET.

Thank you - Just wore out these stock tires, so I'd be dumb to go in the snow now. Hope everyone has fun. Will stick with semi glamping in the rain this weekend.

Nice! Welcome to TW Dan. I think I might start calling overlanding Overloading...it kinda fits a little better.

I just started going to Baja a few years ago. This year will be my third year. I love the place.

    See you on the trails!

Last weekend no, we saw between 5-10 other people but the weather was supposed to be terrible (it was cloudy and started to drizzle at the end of the day). I have heard it can get crowded. We will see what happens

Great to hear! My main profile pic is of cabo pulmo. The East Cape is something to behold. Have you been? The Vizcaíno desert is equally surreal.

Each year I've only gone for less than a week each time. So we've only gone as far south as somewhere just North of Guerro Negro despite doing 1300 miles on dirt in 6 days.
This year we're going for 16 days so we should get pretty far south. My profile pic is somewhere East of Ensanada on last year's Baja 1000 route.

We're going from November 10th to the 26th this year if you're interested. We don't really plan a route...we kinda do it as we go...we get up make breakfast, stop eat tacos, drink beer, drive/ride, stop eat tacos, drink beer, set up camp, eat tacos drink beer. Less driving this year and more sitting on the beach eating tacos and drinking beer. So far it's 2 first gen tacomas and 2 KTM 640's. I ride too so we kinda rotate driving the truck and riding the motos between tacos and beer.
