Did mine myself but there were a lot of tools I had access to at my buddies shop. If I did it again east coast gear without a doubt. Only reason I did it myself was I got the locker for cost but I lost that contact so anything else gear related is east coast all the way. And warranty

I'm sure I've done more difficult things, not too worried about it

I do like the warranty, I'm tempted to just do r&p and shims tho. Also tempting to just keep the e locker and save $900 for now.
Probably re using bearings if they look good

SDHQ is both boots and outer clamps. Need grease, and inner clamps. I have the tool for crimping the clamps.

I'm going to order another set of boots from SDHQ, because I had to use one of my spairs. They are supposed to be a high-amgle/increased articulation set up.

We can press off the tripod bearing and replace boots that way, quick and easy.

@Wheelspinner did your brother need spacers to mount those FJ wheels or are they a perfect fit?

Normal tires they would fit fine. They are actually the wheels used for a spare tire on tacomas. He is running a spacer though because the tires are 285's so because of the width and insane backspace the tires would hit the uca without the spacers

Tacoma 16" spare wheels are what he has. The 17" Tacoma spare wheels are a weird square shape center and the fj steel wheels look just like the Tacoma 16" spare wheels but are 17" @diabetik81

The diameter shouldn't make a difference in needing a spacer or not. It just the width of the tire because the steelies are like 5.25" backspace. Trd's come with a 265 series tire stock so a 265/75-16 or 265/70-17 should fit fine. If you go up to a 285 series then that extra width will put the tire into the uca and you'll need a spacer at that point.

Awesome thanks. Sticking w/ 265 for now. Next set will be taller but 255 so looks like I'm good.

Let me know, I'd like the trans for sure, wouldn't mind the motor too. I'd like the ECU so I can make it all work CEL free.

What do you want for the motor and trans?

Towed it to my inlaws to do my brakes today. Many thanks to @diabetik81 for the hook up. Made progress with my brakes. New calipers and discs installed.
