i just bought a new pistol. super depressing searching for a place to shoot it.

it is a .22 rimfire handgun, so fairly innocuous..by comparison. any wilderness areas around that i can just go plinking?
    i live in Santa Rosa.

    1. Alarming title. Glad we aren't talking about schools.
    2. If y'all don't live near Santa Rosa, California, y'all likely have no good reason to be posting here.

Circle-S in Petaluma, they're open 8-5 and it's $15. If you're going to go there get there when they open and leave by 10am maybe 11am. After that the wind picks up and it gets packed.

There's also Ukiah Gun Club in Ukiah, but that's members only. You can go to a meeting and sign up for a membership if interested or go as a current members guest.

Outside of that there's Cow Mountain. It's free and open but you run into some sketchy people up there.

Outside of those three options hope you know someone with some private property around here!

Cow has a range, can be sketchy but during the week it's not too busy. Please if you go up there, shoot only at the range. There are always people shooting at the top of the road, it's not safe. I've heard snaps over my head multiple times out there because of dumb as s' shooting over roadsand other places they shouldn't.

    oh..yea. alarming title. sorry

but yea. Circle-S blows. quite literally. i watched a guy have to go and pull out pallet to "refresh" his one target holder at the pistol range. and the wind at the rifle range is an issue. i need to sight in a rifle soon, so i will go there. but it's like shooting at a junkyard. (which is fun, dont get me wrong)

I think this happens a lot in the Stockton area. :infantry:

not really a range, but I think a lot of people just drive up and start shooting.

Surely there is a mall nearby. We'd always suggest the Tacoma mall to people when they asked in a WA firearm group.

If you're on "the people's land" (national forest) you should be able to shoot as you like. Obviously not near roads or dwellings and not shooting at tvs and glass bottles. Unless things have changed you can open carry in national forest and even carry concealed if your on a "hunting or fishing expedition"

Thread title wins, I came in here to say Oakland and/or some areas of San Fran that I've driven through... only to discover I was one of many that misinterpreted that :anonymous:. Carry on gents, as you were.

Most places really. Many are under snow right now, but you can always drive down to Panoche or Tumey Hills.
