CB Antenna Hood Mounts

I'm looking at getting a CB radio and plan on going with a hood mount and 3' firestik. I know of the Relentless Fab mount and CBI Fab mount that are for these locations. Are there any others out there?

If anyone has one of these mounts please let me know the quality of the mount, reception, and grounding. Pics are always welcome too

I've seen threads showing these mounts but not too much mention of how good of a setup they are. Thanks!

Yea i was planning on doing the same thing; Power through the firewall directly to the battery and the coax up through the floor

Anyone else have a hood mounted antenna?

 

I have an 03 and am using the cbi mount. It gets the antenna out of line of site really good. Very strong heavy duty mount. I'm running a 4' firestick, firering wire, heavy duty spring and a cobra 19 DX IV. Does good got a 1.7 swr 1 and 40. Can get out about 1-2 miles depending on where I am. Very mountainous area I live in.

 

*make sure if you have nylon spacers, as with the fire ring and others pictured, that the nylon shoulder fits in the hole the antenna bolts through. Also make sure your grounds are correct and free of paint. @bigshane found this out the hard way.

 

Yea it looked like the cbi mount puts it more off to the side while the relentless mount puts it in front of the windshield. I was leaning towards the cbi but a local member has a relentless mount he isn't using. Decisions decisions

 

Thanks for the advice, I was planning on getting the firering. In this case the firering acts as the nylon spacer? Or a spacer is needed in addition?

Thanks man, I'm liking this mount! Can you give me info on how it is installed, there's nothing on CBIs website. Does it bolt up to existing holes? It also looks like you had to cut some plastic to install it?

Probably easier with another set of hands. Mine was a real pain the butt, because I was doing it alone.

 

Both, the Fire Ring comes with everything you need, a built in spacer and a seperate one.

 

No drive thrus or parking decks for you lol.

 

Funny you say that, I went to Mcd's yesterday I thought the poor girl at the window was gonna have a heart attack!! LOL And no parking decks up here in the sticks!!

 

I didn't realize how much was involved, thanks for all your help. I don't want to make any permanent mods to install the antenna so now I think im back to the relentless mount. Anyone got the relentless mount that I can bug for info?

Did you have to open up the holes to mount the antenna stud to it? The pics on the CBI site make it look like a CB stud wouldn't fit.
