What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Where did you get this at?

 

Yeah this is part of why I did it the way I did it. With only one person, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it the more thorough way. Baster method is slower and not as thorough, but it's safer and does a good job. Maybe I'll do it the other way later on though.

 

So I know this isn't the "help me diagnose problems with my truck thread" (if one even exists) but I used my 4wd earlier today it worked fine then and when I was leaving work I went to engage it and it wouldn't engage or make any actuator noise like it was trying to engage. I checked all the plugs on the t case and ADD as well as the vacuum lines and that all looks good, checked the fuse and that was good as well. Not sure where to go from here and not sure how to check if the ADD is bad... Any ideas would be a huge help thanks guys!

 

I've heard a lot of good regarding CVJ. Most has been from 2nd gens, but IMO it's worth the shot.

 

You try driving back and forward to try to help engage it?

 

Yeah forward, reverse, and in an S pattern and got nothing out of it.

 

I did, I live close to their HQ so I just drove down and ordered it, took about a month and some change for it to get to my doorstep.

 

Broke trail up the mountain today/ tonight.

 

Touched up my sliders. But in a super lazy, crappy way. I just sprayed it onto napkins and wiped down spots that needed retouching. It takes little time and I guess gets the job done, but the coverage is iffy and probably won't hold. I will probably do it right next time, blocking off the body and actually spraying them. Also, I forgot to wear gloves so my fingers were covered in the stuff.

Checked my LBJ bolts tightness. All good there. And someone (forget who, @devinzz1 perhaps?) mentioned the bolts I bought possibly being too short for the inside ones. I took a picture of the two. They do make it out, but just barely. Are they too short/should I replace them, or is this fine?

 

Looks fine to me.

When I touch up my sliders I just get some cardboard and wedge it between them and the body. I have a black truck so I'm not super concerned with a little over spray if it happens since I'll never see it?

 

Yeah I'm thinking it's enough, since even the "shorter" side still clears the top, but I don't have much experience with LBJs so I can't say for sure.

That's the method I was originally going to use. But it's a bit windy today and I didn't feel like trying to find a way to work around it. My truck is silver, so it's a little more noticeable so I would have to be more cautious. I could always wipe off any overspray right away though. Next time, I will likely do it that way.

I like my compact pickup for most things, but I miss my '06 Tundra AC for doing truck stuff; e.g., towing heavy(ish) loads, transporting lumber longer than eight feet, hauling crap to the dump.

 

so idk how this comment made it through but sadly, if that is why your bought a snorkel you'll be very disappointed. The intake for the vents its at the base of the wind shield in the fairing. Right by the wind shield wipers on the passenger side is the hole into the cab. It sucks in air from that area, not your air intake of the truck.

Does the light flash? the 4wd light?

You have a jshift or a push button?

 

Oh well I did not know that! but no thats the the reason I bought it. I dont like having my intake under my fender. My tires paddle in dirt rocks and water into that tube so I figured it was time to jump on the dorkel train. Ill have to explore other options for reducing dust into the ac

In cab filter? I thought our trucks didn't have cabin air filters.

 

Everywhere ive looked gave me the impression the 1st gens dont have one, even parts diagrams didnt show any replace able filters just little vents and stuff.

 

I thought we did. But it is also damn impossible to get too in the center of the dash area...swear i remember seeing one with i had my entire dash apart in 2012...but maybe i was hallucinating haha was a long time ago..


in which case...

i guess figure out a way to add a filter and that would help a lot haha

lets figure out how to retofit one.
